How common is it for this to happen on UK television
Whose Line is It Anyway actually had its pilot screened on December 16th 1988 as part of the first series
Among the panelists was Jimmy Mullvile whose company Hat Trick of course made the programme Mullville had also been in the sketch show Who Dares Wins and the sitcoms That,s Love and Chelmsford 123
Has any other show had their pilot screened

Allo Allo
They could screen unseen pilots both of series that were made and the hundreds that never were.
And invite viewers to submit their own pilot shows of series they create to serve as a shop window.
Make a change from the usual genre channels on satellite and cable.
Dad's Army (slightly amended version)
Also, didn't Ronnie Barker do a series of individual characters, as a series, which led to further episodes of some?
Seven of One led to both Porridge and Open all hours.
The character of Clarence was developed from a character in his ITV series Six dates with Barker.

The Gilmore girls had an absolutely blatant one, where Jess went to California to find his estranged father. Every character he met was suspiciously well defined.
Grey's backdoor to Private Practice springs to my mind for recent shows. They had a different actress playing Naomi. Audra Mcdonald was a better Naomi so I am glad Audra got casted for the series. Having said that, I enjoyed the show until season 3 then it went downhill.
I didn't like Bones' backdoor to The Finder. Thought it was badly written. Gave the series' pilot a shot, but just couldn't get into it.
One reason not to screen them is that often they have different cast and/or characters to the main series.
And the problem with that is???
It would be fascinating to see where the original direction and aim was
Sometimes unbroadcast pilot episode are included as an extra on DVD boxed sets of a show.
The pilot for "Being Human" had different actors for Annie, Mitchell and Herrick:D
Yes, and Jen's character was called 'Adrianna'.
Because of that sketch now everytime I hear 'Aberdeen', I want to say 'Aber bloody deen!'.
Oh Dr Beeching! (the pilot became episode 1 with a few changes)
Don't most US TV shows have pilots?
