Paula Patton and Robin Thicke are ending their longtime marriage.

"We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time," the singer and the actress told PEOPLE on Monday in an exclusive statement.

The pair, who first met when Thicke was 14, have been married since 2005 and welcomed son Julian Fuego Thicke in April 2010.

Thicke, 36, long had been very expressive about his marriage to Patton, 38, gushing, "We're pretty sure we've loved each other for a few lives."

I know there's always been rumours about him cheating, but I'm actually quite surprised they are splitting. Got the impression that if it was true, she must have been aware and accepted it.

That's a shame, I bet that picture of him with his hand up that girls skirt didn't help matters, I find him pretty seedy.

Very creepy uncle look about him. He appears much older than he is too, I get the impression he likes this "daddy" image.

Oh well. She's best shot of him.

This does not surprise me in the slightest. He always used the fact that he had a black(ish) wife to give him street cred with his primarily black female audience. Flagging it up in about every interview, it was so obvious and tacky.

That female Canadian comic made me laugh commenting about his song 'that rape anthem with him creepy dad dancing in it'.

I always wonder how a man that disgusting can find a woman to marry him in the first place.

To be honest I always found the whole "it was my wife's idea for me to have much younger naked women waggling their tits around me in my video coz she's soooo cool and therefore all other women should be too" idea a bit strange.
Well good luck to them both and to their little son, whatever happens

Has it been confirmed that he was cheating?

Everybody seems to be saying that....where are you getting all this from?

    Neither do I.
We do not know the reason for the break up but his behaviour certainly didn't help. And the ironic thing is that he actually got away with it exactly because he was married, he could always claim it was in good fun that even the wife approved.

I'm not surprised. He always comes across as creepy to me. I really hate that Blurred Lines song as well. Why the hell was it so popular?

My mum loves it. I don't think she's ever properly paid attention to the lyrics.

And I concur on the creepiness point.

It is. Every time I have the misfortune of hearing it I get a really bad vibe. I read somewhere it was a rip off of an old Marvin Gaye song, am I right?

When I first heard Blurred Lines I thought it would credit Marvin Gaye as it sounded like a straightforward sample.

Her vision will clear up when the divorce proceedings start.

Marvin Gaye's estate is looking into it, apparently.

I don't think anything's been confirmed but there was that rather unfortunate photo of him in a lift (with a mirrored background) which revealed he had his hand up a young woman's bottom crack.

Yes, but with all the talent sucked out of it.

Thicke does seem like a sleazy creep. Can't say I'm surprised by this news.
