Venables was all over the news because of that disgusting pornography, so I'm pretty sure Thompson would get the same treatment if he committed another serious crime. We haven't heard anything though so I think it's fair to say he hasn't done anything wrong since the murder.

He might just not have been caught... (which brings me back to my comment about comment number 3 again ):)

If a leopard can't change his spots...why presume a psychopath like Thompson can?

So he got an A-Level, is interested in fashion and is gay.

Yep...you can't beat a good old, roaring success story!

You're forgetting that he's also got a girlfriend up the spout and enjoyed a 'lads' trip' abroad.

We all did things as children that we wouldn't dream of doing now, no?

    He's not a leopard?

What if he makes a funny face and the wind blows? What then?

Protip- popular metaphors are not always accurate.

I'm sure as somebody qualified to make a psychiatric diagnosis you haven't been so irresponsible to base it on the very limited evidence in the public domain and a few tabloid stories. Wouldn't it be ethical to reveal your actual role in the assessment of Thompson's mental state?

    Yep...Knock-down ginger and things....

But not many of us kidnapped a two year old, stoned it to death and then left it on a train track so they could watch, from a distance, as the lad was de-capitated

You can only reform if it is a behaviour controlled by your own will. Psychopathy is not summat to be switched on and off at will - and many people with it are incurable, but some aren't...

From what I saw in my old job i came to the conclusion some psychopathies are caused by a child being brought up in a toxic environment, by psychopathic parents, in a world where they had no firm values, or guidance, or affection. Take the child away from those parents and put them in a place where they could get all those positive things... you might get a new, different person.

Yet you are the sort of person who refers to a two year old boy as "it".

    I find that unnerving.

You're really not coming across as particularly smart on this thread, sorry. And it's quite unclear what you actually want....do you think we should have executed the 10-year-old, locked them up forever, not given them anonymity?

You just seem to be carping and trading on a lot of 'what ifs' rather than anything based on fact or logic.

I always find it fascinating that some people think the correct punishment for the killing of a child is to kill another child.

You know there is a large grey area between good and bad. It's not either you're an angel or you're an evil psychopath. I believe the two boys who murdered James Bulger were very emotionally disturbed children because of physically, sexually and emotionally abusive parents / family members, not those 'evil monsters' or 'devil children' the media like to refer to them as.

I have to disagree. Many kids have a tough upbringing but they don't do what they did.

Right, so you want a discussion. And you think that referring to the two year old murder victim as "it" and telling me to raise my game contributes to discussion, do you? Not my level of discussion it doesn't.

If you can't distinguish between my feelings for young Jamie Bulger...and the way he was treated by Venables and Thompson as an "it"... and you really couldn't figure that out by my tone in that particular post..

...then as I said. "You need to raise your game."

Yes this always puzzled me too. I don't think Venables and Thompson were ever viewed as children themselves. Just monsters.

As for Robert now. His rehabilitation has obviously worked. Something with Jon though clearly went wrong. Whats strange about that however is everyone at the time said Jon was the good kid and the follower while Robert was the evil one who planned the whole thing. Jon must have had way more wrong with him than anyone really knew.
