France launches first air strikes on IS in Iraq
French jets have carried out their first strikes against Islamic State (IS) militants in Iraq, the office of President Francois Hollande says.

A statement said planes had attacked an IS logistics depot in north-east Iraq.

France was already carrying out reconnaissance flights over Iraq and providing weapons to Kurdish fighters.

President Hollande said on Thursday that French air strikes would only target the jihadist group's positions in Iraq, and not neighbouring Syria.

Let's hope other countries get busy too.

It's all very well doing air strikes but have they banned paying ransoms and the government facilitating and paying them yet.

What's the point of bombing ISIS then giving them or done other wannabes a couple of mullion to buy more weapons and pay more soldiers in a few weeks time? Cutting of their funding is pretty essential in crippling their ability to retaliate on a larger and larger scale.

Obviously hasn't occurred to the West that arming the FSA, the Syrian "branch" of ISIS, in the hopes that they will turn against the rest of ISIS and fight them could backfire and ultimately just mean you've given ISIS more arms.

I think it smacks of desperation and losing the plot.

It's just cheap short term thinking. And each time they do it the problem gets worse and more complex which seems to make them even more reluctant to tackle it root and branch. I think that politically nobody has the cojones to explain to the public that dealing with Islamists means a long term comment in men, money and lives. There is also the fact that some strategic rethinking is desperately needed. Some of our "allies" are plainly closer to IS than us and some countries we treat with suspicion such as Iran are natural enemies to them.

The news shows seem to have forgotten about the Islamic fascist threat with the wall-to-wall Scottish hot air coverage still going at full tedious blast.

    Yes it's astounding.

It was good to take a break from it. Also why give the attention seekers the bandwith?

It does seem to be the case. It's badly backfired on them.
