Finally, there's some more info about Mark Gatiss' sequel to BBC 4's A History of Horror series.

It's called A History Of Euro Horror and is set to air at Halloween...there's some more info on the link below but I have a few questions...

Does anyone know what films will be screened alongside the documentary?

Any more news or info that anyone's aware of?

I'd hope they will show this film as part of the season

So, what classic Euro horror films would everyone like to see accompanying this documentary?

So many to choose from, I hope they don't just stick on something like Black Sunday or an Argento flick as it would be just too obvious.

Hmmm....i know what you mean...i think i'd like to see something like a Paul Naschy werewolf flick or something a little obscure...like you say, nothing too lazy or obvious!

Disappointing to see this is only a 90 minute one-off with no accompanying films (BBC cuts strike again). To try and do justice to decades of European horror in 90 minutes will be no mean feat! You could spend that time purely on one decade of Mario Bava!!

I don't know, Charlie Brooker manages well enough to squeeze a years worth of news into an hour.

I’ve always thought his end of year Wipes rush by too fast with little effect myself.

There’s a two-page piece in Radio Times on this where Gatiss namechecks his Top 5 Euro-Horrors (Bava’s Whip and The Body is in there, yay!) which seems somewhat taunting if none are going to be aired.

Bump for tomorrow. Even as a 90 minute one-off it’s still my most eagerly anticipated programme of the week.

Here’s a link for anyone inspired by Gatiss’ show to seek out more about the genius, Mario Bava:

Your jaw will drop at the price but as the proud owner of the book myself I can attest it is worth every single cent for what would undoubtedly be the biggest and most comprehensive book on a single subject that you have ever owned. The production values are lavish and it was years in the making with the love and care showing on every page. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

They make Horror films about the Euro ?

Wow, that is a narrow film genre.

One thing I didn't like about the last series was that Mark got a bit sniffy about modern horror films

That's why I trust his judgement, Saw? Give me heaving cleavage in a pretend Gothic pile any day :)

Saw isn't horror, it's just "torture porn"

Personally I like both old and new style horror

I like old and new horror too...although I disagree re; SAW - the first of the franchise is a clever little film. Nasty, but an interesting concept which was pretty original at the time. I don't like the rest of the series (I made it as far as number four and gave up..)

It's a shame the BBC haven't bothered to show any classic European horror films alongside the BBC4 documentary however...or in fact ANY horror films at Halloween...

Looking forward to this, though IMO this should be a proper series or mini series like the last one, not simply a one off documentary.

    Agreed!

Really glad they've made it though and Gatiss has hinted at a third documentary looking at Asian horror...let's hope he gets good ratings for the one tonight on BBC4! :D

The Asian horror one would be cool, but I hope they look at more than just Ringu and the Korean serial killer type films (I Saw the Devil, Save the Green Planet, Vengeance Trilogy etc), as theres been some interesting Japanese stuff from the 60's like The Face of Another (1965) and Onibaba (1964)
