It's called the mote in our house as that's what our son called it when he was little, he was a bit obsessed with it, it still has all his teethmarks in it. The worst thing he did was change the language to German, we had it like that for at least two years. Lautstarke is German for volume if anyone is interested.

it's currently known as the Mote, or the SkyMote, to differentiate between them :P

I used to know a girl at university who carried an old remote control without batteries around with her and when people used to say things she didn't like, she point it at them, push a button and say 'click'! :D AND it always worked!!

At the risk of taking this all far too seriously, I reckon the vast majority of people just call their remote, erm, "the remote" and that a lot of the people in that survey tried really hard to deliberately add to the wackiness of it all.

:D This was my take on it too!

'Remote' or 'controls' in our house, and but rarely have I actually met anyone who called it owt else.

I remember years ago, my brother's friend said his old Mum, about 75 then, asked him to get her a remote to save her from constantly getting out of her armchair to switch channels.
For a laugh he borrowed a pool cue from one of our local pubs, and said to her, "There you go Mum, just reach over and poke what button you want!"

    Haha!

I relinquished it and gave up watching TV almost entirely. The other half is a flicker and particularly during adverts which just drives me to distraction so now I don't watch at all.

Must say when I watch TV and if by some oversight on the other half's behalf, I find myself in control of the control, I flip all over the place during the ads, I sneer a lot too as I watch them, I think it's become a habit, I am currently working on not doing it when out and about, because it makes me look a bit strange and people cross over at my approach, still it's not as bad as when I felt I had to stand on the corner and direct the traffic by shouting at it.
    That was a stressful year!
    Onwards and upwards eh?:D

And who knew that a no no, was a hair removing invention, I was convinced for some time it was porn associated.

We used to call it the handset. I have never met anyone else who called it that, yet everyone knows what I mean when I say it.
