Why no +1 HD channels ?

All the HD channels seem to be the normal versions but not one channel provides it's +1/extra variant in HD quality. Rather strange, if you are going to provide the service at least let us watch it in a decent quality.

We don't need +1 SD channels, let alone HD ones. Don't encourage them.

Because you could have about 4 SD channels in the space and cost it would be to broadcast in HD.

HD really should remain a premium.

The viewing figures would be too low, I'd imagine. The profitability of SD +1 channels may be marginal and if so, HD +1 channels will be even harder to justify.

The situation may, however, be different for multicast IPTV over fibre, once it gets established. Now *that* would cause a bit of financial head-scratching up at Sky HQ. ;)

Wouldn't justify the cost that you'd get in additional ad revenue from a +1 thats SD.
A few broadcasters have looked at HD +1's and all found them (Currently) to be a loss maker, so its not gonna happen.

You can have as many +1 channels as you like if you buy a PVR and learn to use it to record shows you wish to watch.
They are also a much better use of broadcast space on Freeview. + channels should be band IMHO.
And standard Freeview receivers should have a small amount of recording time built in .

They do serve a purpose other than just to give a little extra cash to a broadcaster.
Agreed that on Freeview they shouldn't be allowed as they do take up space that could be otherwise used for more channels but your point on Freeview boxes having recording space built into them, would drive costs up which is not what the consumer wants.
If you want recording facilities then you buy a PVR or other recording device.

If they put programmes up onto iPlayer etc faster we wouldn't need +1 channels

Ironic then that the BBC does not have any +1 channels, and that iPlayer only provides BBC programming.
