Looks like a scary runway to land a plane.
Glad everyone is OK.

An airliner has ended up in the sea off the Indonesian island of Bali after missing Denpasar airport runway, but all those on board survived.

Hospitals treated 22 people after the crash, which involved an Indonesian Lion Air plane carrying 101 passengers and seven crew.

It missed the runway reportedly from a height of 50m (yards) and landed in the ocean nearby.

Terrified passengers made their way ashore through the shallow water in life jackets as police in rubber dinghies rowed out to rescue them.

Lion Air - Went on one of their flights once from Jakarta to Bali, never been so terified of flying as i was during it.

Googled the planes identity number, and it was well past the 'suggested usage'

Looking at the video on the BBC web site and on checking the local conditions, it appears as if it came down just off the end of the runway a bit to the north of this narrow structure which I suspect is the support for the approach lights.

The weather conditions, on checking a few hours later, seem to have been ideal with no crosswind and the runway is more than adequate for landing a 737 - nearly 10000 ft long.

I wonder if there was some problem onboard which required a go-around but the airspeed was too low to permit it. At least the crew are around to tell their version of events to investigators.

Doesn't look very scary at all.

Scary. There are times it is hard to stand upright in the ocean there because of the under tow, even in shallow water.

One report states the aircraf was only 2 months old
    - overshot the runway without touchingdown. There was some windshere at the time.

The plane came into service in 2012 from radio reports.

try flying with Garauda Indonesia....... now that is scary........ Bali's airport is a bit strange, when you come in to land, looking out of the window you see Kuta beach and the sea...... and then a matter of seconds before the wheels touch down you still see the sea!!!!

Don't let this little mishap put you off from visiting Bali........ it is a must-see place, so so beautiful....

For suicidal landing strips the famous rescue of Mussolini from a mountain top ranks as one of the most dangerous and skilful when in 1944 Hitler arranged for the deposed dictators rescue from a boulder strewn mountain top plateau that involved landing a small 3-4 seat Fiesler Storch aircraft upon a landing and take-off run on par with the length of a cricket pitch - narrowly avoiding disaster.
