Just seen a very cool article by Kotaku.au where they compare the heat from both consoles via a thermal camera, here are the results:

Note - the PS4 is moderately cooler lying horizontally.
Xbox One demo stations are only videos at the moment. They have controller slots so I guess they'll come later.
I believe GDDR5 is also more power hungry.
But yeah neither console is running what you would consider too 'hot'.
If these new console are colder than their predecessors, it doesn't mean they are "better". That just means they run cooler.
It's very impressive given the internal power supply. Obviously a well designed unit.
Yep. Any PC gamer will tell you about the feeling you get when your new investment is idling just above where it should according to the internet and the first time you stick Metro Last Light on knowing it's going to push your £300 slab to within an inch of its life! To all those lucky sods who have/are getting new hardware this week don't worry bout those temps. They're fine:)
Also, I think if comparing to a 'normal' PC you have to look at what PCs with APUs are like, rather than looking at the heat generated by a PC with a separate CPU and a separate (beast of a) graphics card.
