Is anyone here a regular viewer and if so what is your favourite channel or channels because there is a large selection and none of them are hardly ever discussed on here, only from people wanting to get rid of them off the epg?
I don't think so - well not yet anyway! I don't watch any religious channels but my uncle (who pretends to be religious I think) used to watch them and sometimes you'd visit his house and he'd stick on one.
I cant imagine anyone here watching all these religious channels, as, really, this country is one, if not THE least religious/spiritual nation in the world!! Those channels are more suited in the USA, where there is still a strong religious foundation and its still very much Bible-beltish, and near enough everyone goes to some church or whatever and there is near enough a church or meeting place on every street corner!!!

Someone must watch them, thankfully (in my opinion) Virgin only have one, God TV, which seems predominantly to be one big begging bowl but are there not numerous religious stations on satellite covering several faiths?
I block God TV (and the porn channels) on my EPG as I personally found they can be quite offensive but I have no problem with their availability, so long as they adhere to broadcasting rules.
It's kinda sad that folk have to mock religious channels. Even in this relatively pagan country, there are a lot of people for whom religious faith is very important, and for whom TV programmes may be a source of comfort and inspiration.
And of course they beg for money... some of them offensively. But is it really any worse than gaming channels offering the hope of riches if you send them cash, or (semi)-porn channels taking cash for a bit of titillation, or chat channels taking money just so you can see your name on TV? Or a reality channel taking cash so you can 'vote' for your hero in the hope (s)he becomes a national idol?
Is what impressionable children can daily see on soaps or reality programmes , or stuff like X-Factor, any more damaging than what they might see on a religious channel?

If you set up UK TV for others, one thing you soon learn is that for every channel there's somebody who wants to watch it.
In this fringe area, one of the first questions you ask is "what channels are important to you?"
I have one client for whom The God Channel is on their list.
Some people watch them. I once installed a hotbird system for a guy just so he could watch 3ABN. In fact he wanted the box set up so it only listed a handful of religious channels, all others had to be deleted.
Apparently it was the only tv they watched, and their son didn't go to school, they taught him at home. I felt sorry for him as he's going to have such a shock when he finds out what the real world is like.
So yes, I think nutters sums it up quite well.
I don't doubt religion has a purpose, but this particular family seemed obsessed by it to the exclusion of everything else.

Yes, although we still have a fair way to go to catch up with Nordic nations and The Netherlands where church attendance is low and those with no beliefs are high. It's happening slowly but surely though

That perhaps highlights the difference between "faith" (which I have no problem with, even if I have none myself) and "religion" which I have no time for whatsoever.

They do sound a bit weird! Did they ever read newspapers or anything? There's nothing wrong with being religious but that's going a bit too far imo. I feel sorry for their son though, I think he needs to see the real world for himself and experience life a bit.
One woman selling a special edition of the bible and associated books that would probably take more than your whole life to read. During the first minute or so I endured, she was saying 'Praise God' every 5-10 seconds.
Each to their own, true.
As for the state of UK religion it always makes me laugh when someone shouts, 'This is a Christian Country!!!', and they probably won't be seen dead in church on a Sunday, let alone watch these channels.

I've watched before, but only for the comedy value. Some of those American Evangelist preachers are pretty entertaining (in a laughing at mentally deranged people way)
Has anyone seen this website? http://www.christiansat.org.uk/ Seems to specialise in satellite setups for religious channels. I thought it was bizarre to say the least.

He probably does. What else can he do sitting up there in the sky all day? (ok that might be a bad pun )

I think it must be in place of CITV because that seems to have gone from the epg .
They are mostly rubbish but there are one or two worth watching when there's nothing else on.
Jesse Duplantis is entertaining so is John Hagee.

Same with me and a certain favourite news channel of mine, some might find it boring but I love it

Most either sourced from the USA or Africa.

Ahh the irony
Always think of Genesis - Jesus He Knows Me when I think about the religious channels
Good choice of song Will listen this evening when I get home though.
