Which famous speaking voices do you love?

Listening to a play with the brilliant Bill Nighy in, made me think of some wonderful voices that I've always loved.

Actors Philip Jackson, John Castle and Bill are my favourites (yes I do listen to a lot of radio drama!), as well as John Hurt, Richard Burton and James Mason. Others include Clive James and Alan Whicker.

If Bill Nighy told me the moon was made of cheese, I'd not only believe him, I'd want to go there with him! His voice is so convincing, whatever he says!

Who are your favourites?

Stephen Fry - just the right amount of friendliness, charm and wit. I'd happily hear him rad the yellow pages.

Alan Rickman. I *heart* him a bit.

I worked with someone who had the same voice but unfortunately looked like Mr Muscle :(

Totally agree re Bill Nighy! He is mesmerising. Other favs are Donald Sutherland, John Malkovich, Morgan Freeman. If God exists, I believe he will look and sound just like Morgan Freeman. :)

Alan Rickman, Patrick Stewart and Stephen Fry. The first could make the dictionary sound sexy, and the others have very soothing voices.

Apologies for the sexism but I'm struggling to think of an outstanding female speaking voice atm.

    EDIT: Just thought...Mariella Frostrup

Whenever I hear some idiot screeching into her mobile phone, I wonder why she can't speak like Joanna Lumley?

I like Stephen Fry, Delroy Lindo, Morgan Freeman, James Earl Jones, Denzel Washington (he has a bit of that Baltimore swagger!), Patrick Stewart, the guy who was Gandalf (I have pregnancy brain and can't think)-- basically any rich and honeyed or warm treacle tone. I like southern USA male acccents, GW Bush's fake Texan accent excluded.

I think PC Dale Smith from the Bill sounds sexy in that bit of rough way!

John De Lancy narrates occasionally, he should do more. Sean Pertwee has a wonderful voice, could listen to him all day. Also Joanna Lumley, George Clooney, Morgan Freeman, and loads of others - will have to go think of them all :D

    Has to be Tom Baker.

Whether it's the hilarious commentary on Little Britain or something more serious. His voice just makes me smile.

Art Malik. I love the way he uses his voice.

I second Alan Rickman, James Earl Jones, George Clooney and Tom Baker.

Among the ladies, Deborah Kerr had such a sweet gentle voice.

The most famous voice in Denmark was Thomas Winding, a children's programme host and producer. His voice was legendary. He deserves a mention even if I'm the only one who knows him:D
