Programmes that were killed off too early

Prime example was Survivors, there were so many loose ends the BBC could have made another series. 4.5 million is still a respectable rating for a cultish show.

Grosse Pointe, excellent spoof of US teen soaps would be my choice, if I'm avoiding the obvious).
The 4400
Angel
Crusade (Babylon 5 spinoff)
Veronica Mars
Stargate SG1
Stargate Universe
Pushing Daisies
Star Trek Enterprise
Arrested Development
Tru Calling
Rome
Millenium
Space: Above and Beyond
Paradox
Ugly Betty
The Tribe
Thing is there were a number of shows that turned to shit, because the ratings were poor, and they decided to muck around with them, so if you count them:
American Gothic
Action
Brimstone.
Plenty of others I'm sure, but my memory...
Buffy the Vampire slayer
The 4400
Angel
Tru Calling
Journeyman
Early edition
Ghost Whisperer
Boston Legal
Flashforward
Reaper
Moonlight
Heroes
The first of these was done. 7 years was a good run, and it had a good conclusion. Season 8 was OK too, in comic form.
The second deserved to be killed off, so poor had it become. I watched it till the end, always hoping it would re-capture it's amazing season 1 form, but it just didn't happen.
maybe Ugly Betty... at least they both got proper endings
FlashForward
Jericho
Journeyman
Outcasts
Survivors
SGU
Many happy hours during the 1960's watching this. Puts current daytime tv to shame.
Oh yeah! Especially considering they left it with the cliffhanger!

Seconded.
One of the best programmes of the morning or afternoon was the test card and music.
With all this talk of the BBC allegedly thinking of reducing programming hours to reduce expenditure this is an ideal opportunity to bring back the test card and music for at least a couple of hours in the afternoon and maybe for at least an hour in the morning too (just as the test card was shown with music during those times in the two, three and four television channel era).
Bring the test card back - with the same wonderful music that was played when it appeared regularly on our television screens.
