Her hairstyle in those Bear Grylls pics is very severe too. She looks like Mrs Oleson from Little House on the Prairie.

It was her lips that did it.

The face and brow lifts she'd had prior to that were looking good, but the lip work she had done around 2011 looked wrong. I think she had another facelift which would stretch her mouth somewhat and had something done to her lips at the same time, so she had the stretched mouth and augmented lips which completely changed the lower half of her face.

    she was so pretty

i dont understand why the prettiest people are the most insecure

I'd imagine it's because they spend their youth being complimented on their looks - then when a younger, prettier model arrives they lose all that.

For me, it's when people mess about with their lips that it REALLY ruins their faces. Why everyone is getting the "blow fish" look, including young girls who's lips were already perfectly fine, is one of life's great mysteries. Why can't they all see how ugly it is and how it's making them look WORSE?

Maybe it's so much the fashion, and for example, if Greta Garbo was an icon now (well, she'll forever be an icon!), then there would be a trend for lip-thinning. A fair amount of plastic surgery seems to work, but the massive lip injections (and bottoms!) is strange.

Their obsession with long hair and extreme diets is what makes so many Hollywood stars look old and haggard before their time.

Sarah Jessica Parker is a prime example...I don't think I've ever seen her with shorter hair, she clings onto her ghastly long hair style, which just drags her whole face down. And adding a couple of pounds (well, stones) would fill out her face and soften the edges. I think that everyone thought that Renee Zellweger looked much better as Bridget than she ever did as Renee because the extra weight really suited her.

The same with Courtney, she's far too thin and her hair does her no favours, she's too old for that cut and colour.

Although to be fair, spending any time with Bear Grylls would turn the most beautiful woman into a hag!

How can someone be too old for long dark hair? Is this a "older women must have short hair" type of thing?

As for the weight issue, in the real world, Renee may be the size of Bridget. Since I saw numerous people online calling Harley Quinn fat after the release of SS, I can understand why actresses insist on being skinny. Any sign of fat and people pounce. It's disgusting, but it doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon.

This has always left me scratching my head as well. According to who's rules did this notion even come from? I've seen women over 60 with long hair and they look lovely still, and even if they didn't as long as they are happy that way why should anyone else care? Yet this popular belief that as soon as a woman hits middle age she should chop off her hair still won't die. It's maddening.

And it's not just hair. I see all sorts of comments about how older women "should" look, including really crazy opinions like they shouldn't wear jeans.

Is it just good old ageism in action again, or is there something else to it?

Some older women look good with long hair, but most don't, as it seems to drag the face down, and as its already heading south, it's not a flattering look, especially if the hair is thinning as it often does with age.
If the hair is put up, or is cut shorter, and layered, it lifts and frames the face
I agree about the thick bloated lips, which have turned many beautiful women ugly
Fillers also can be a problem if they " migrate" and give the face a lumpy look
No problem with face lifts, and non surgical methods, if done properly by specialists
No one wants a saggy face, and turkey gobble neck, surely?

I think you're spot on with the hair thing. It isn't that an older woman can't have longer hair, of course she can if she likes (I mean, look at Jane Seymour), but often they look better with a slightly shorter or more layered style. I mean, to me she looks much nicer here.

Put this way, I agree. :) I just get riled when some people talk as though it's a hard and fast rule for all.

Any excuse to say "mutton dressed as lamb" usually. I guess long hair on a woman is considered to be more sexy, so once we reach a certain age, we must stop it at once :p

Of course that's not why everyone says it. Tellystar made a decent point, but it isn't that way for everyone.

I did say Some women look good with long hair, especially if swept up I a chignon, or loose bun at the back
It's not a hard and fast rule, but generally long hair, just hanging there does not look good when you get older. How often have you seen someone from behind and when they turn round- big let down!
    Take Liz Jones, for example.....

Well isn't that a fault of society, not the woman who didn't look as young or beautiful as you expected her to?

Liz Jones could look a lot better with a different hairstyle
She's already had the face lift etc
Surely she should be expected to look good after spending all that money on herself!

She certainly was very beautiful and I'm certain would have remained so, even with some lines and a bit of sagging. I'm not entirely convinced it's all down to the industry, I think personal vanity is the bigger issue. When you're bombarded with images of the "you" of the Friends era it must be difficult to accept you change - she pretty much admits it in that article. I applaud her however and hopes she stops now.

I think it must be a bit of blessing and a curse to live the high-profile life she has. She was blessed by being part of a massive, global phenomenon but cursed by Friends' success as well because people do forget, given that it is on the telly daily, that it's now 12 years on since the show finished and that "Monica" isn't in her 30s anymore.

It is indeed sad, as you say, because many ordinary women who've never had ANY work end up aging brilliantly. I can't stand that pulled, puppet mouth look that pervades Hollywood society. Hopefully now that she's calmed down the procedures her face will settle.

I think the best thing you can do is exercise and eat healthily. Courtney has obviously went way over the top by getting repeated facial surgery. What a shame. She had a very striking face in her younger years.

I know she was such a natural beauty. When will people realise that trying to maintain your looks via invasive surgery gives a look of one wearing youth like a bad Halloween costume. Aging normally through diet and lifestyle, with some tweaks here and there, makes them much more beautiful.

It's fillers that have ruined her face. It's not just in the lips, it's in her cheeks too. It has ruined countless faces. I honestly don't understand why anyone would take that risk when they see what it does to rich women who must go to expensive doctors. Look at people like Melanie Griffith and Madonna. They would have looked much better ageing naturally.

I agree. All you're doing when getting facial surgery is changing what nature gave you. Courteney had a great looking face in her younger years and she could have looked beautiful for her age if she hadn't have resorted to repeated facial surgery.

I'm sometimes totally puzzled as to why women who really don't facial 'enhancements' get them.

And I see nothing wrong in normal small lips. Like someone else said- Greta Garbo had thin lips and she was considered one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood.

She certainly has ruined her incredibly beautiful natural features, but kudos to her for admitting it - so many celebs take us for fools and claim it's all down to staying out of the sun and drinking water *cough* Lulu. I think it's great that she's admitted her mistake and shows she's got more about her than most vacuous A listers.

I think some of these American 'doctors' should be struck off, they just seem to have no limit over there. The skin clearly isn't meant to be puffed up with crap and then pulled to within an inch of its life. It makes them look like they're wearing a rubber mask.

It's such a stupid trend right now, even for younger girls. They look a mess.

Exactly, what I thought. I think you could see her getting that pulled look towards the end but that was only a year or so ago. Before that she looked fine.
