Hi all, am having a little me time as I skipped french class this morning managing to pack OH off with his friend, satchel and french grammar.
I am delighted for Kara that the play is going so well. Thank you for keeping us so au courant Ellie.
I started with one of your links and watched two or three Gaslight interviews.
I was very impressed with her, she seemed so relaxed, intelligent, articulate and warm. Very comfortable in her skin, she used to have a funny nose scrunching and blinking habit when answering a tricky question. I think that has faded.
This interview which happened in November was particularly interesting.
She did a lovely job of summarising the issues around touring. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmxHHScP4mg
I don't think we have seen it before, apologies if we have

Yes, it's great how her confidence has grown in the past couple of years. She seems to have done loads of interviews on that day, but maintained her enthusiasm in all of them despite being asked the same questions over and over again (and, judging by their comments, been lovely to all the interviewers as well ). I think its a plus of breaking up with Artem that she now gets to focus on her work in interviews, rather than always being asked how she feels about him and his new Strictly partner and getting caught up in all the Strictly curse/'jellus Kara' rubbish every year. I'm glad she now has the confidence to say what she prefers not to talk about.
If anyone is interested in The Halcyon soundtrack, it was a featured album on BBC Newcastle last night.
I saw Gaslight in Birmingham on Saturday Jan 7th (matinee).
Apologies for not posting a review sooner. The night before the show I started having symptoms of a cold so wasn't feeling great for the trip to B'ham and have been under the weather for the following week.
I very much enjoyed the play. I had seen the Ingrid Bergman film many years ago but only had very vague memories of the story. I was in the 6th row so had an excellent view of the stage. It's a psychological drama and as the first half progresses the story unfolds and one begins to understand what is going on. There is a twist in the story when the character played by Keith Allen appears and the story progresses to a satisfying conclusion. Excellent performances from the small cast. The play has a single set and the actors wear the same costumes throughout. Kara doesn't look anything like the publicity photos; in those she has a low cut dress and flowing hair. In the play she has a high-necked dress and her hair is pinned up (probably a wig). At the end of the show she got a lot of applause, well deserved for a very good performance.
I hope that any of you who are able to see Gaslight during the tour enjoy it as much as I did.
Thanks for your review, Crazy. Glad you enjoyed the play.
Thanks for the links as always, Ellie.
I glimpsed an ad on the telly with Kara on the cover of a magazine. I think it was the Saturday mag in the Express. Anyway, couldn't find it online, but there was this (which I think is from today).

Thanks from me too Ellie.
Don't pop in quite as much but do a catch up when I can and follow all the links .
I am Watching the Halycon Quite enjoying it
Always amuses me but wonder if it irks Kara ... No matter how many interviews and whatever press is covering them they all manage to mention Artem and the four year relationship. Sure it's not something he gets in his DWTS.interviews
Keep hoping we are going to read she has a lovely new man in her life but guess not much time for that as her career is pretty full on
Always delighted she has work and have to say she is as lovely and sweet as we Kand A people remember her

Thanks fridgesoup . It's sometimes hard to know which are new interviews, because a lot of The Halcyon ones seem to be cut together quotes from the press pack interview. Hope we hear soon that there will be a second series - if I was Kara I'd want to do it just for the clothes - that hotel must give Betsey a huge clothing allowance
Thanks from me too Ellie.

Nice to hear from you denburn quine
I guess because Kara hasn't talked about any of her relationships since, they have to keep bringing up Strictly and Artem, although I think the focus is slowly shifting to her other work and less Strictly these days.
Re the BIB, judging by Instagram, I think there might be someone, but I doubt she'll confirm anything. Which I think is probably a good idea, while also being nosey about it
But it is Kara Tointon who deserves special mention. She plays the part of Bella admirably, moving effortlessly from the frail, bewildered wife – to the curious, strong and – eventually – defiant character, captivating the attention of the appreciative Grand Opera House audience.
It looks like Betsey survives the bomb blast we saw in episode 1. I've been looking at the Ratings thread and it looks like it might be touch and go whether they get a second series. It will be a real shame if they don't as a lot of people seem to be really enjoying it, but I always thought it was an odd choice to schedule it on a Monday night up against Silent Witness.
I think I have read all the reviews. Looks like the stage is really Kara's forte .
Every review has been more than complimentary both on the play and the two leads .
She must be delighted...
I'm enjoying her singing in The Halycon . Altho it's fleeting.and she looks fab ,:D
Saw Gaslight tonight and really enjoyed it. I can see why Kara has been getting such great reviews - she has such stage presence and such an incredibly expressive face that it was hard not to watch her even when the others were speaking. It's great to see her in a role she can really get her teeth into.
Keith Allen was great too - very funny and he and Kara had good chemistry on stage. He had a huge amount of dialogue and at times I wasn't sure if he was doing a dramatic pause or searching for his line, but if he was he styled it out well . He and Kara (along with the lady playing Elizabeth the housekeeper who was very good) gave quite 'big' theatrical performances which felt period appropriate, whereas I thought Rupert Young played it like a modern man dressed in Victorian clothing. He was still good but I only really found him completely convincing when he got angry and scary - helped by the fact he's very tall and made Kara look tiny and fragile. At one point he picked her up and put her on the chaise like she weighed nothing.
The only one I wasn't so keen on was the lady playing Nancy the maid - her accent kept changing and the scene between her and Rupert was a bit wooden and the only one I felt didn't work. I also agreed with a few of the reviews that said some of the special effects (involving the mirror over the fireplace) felt a bit out of place. There was a funny moment towards the end where Kara was supposed to sweep in dramatically through the double doors, but her skirt got caught on the door frame and she had to go back and free it. When she came in she caught Keith's eye and you could see she was trying not to laugh but she got right back on it and was brilliant in the final scene. The theatre was packed and there was particularly loud applause for Kara and Keith at the end so I think everyone enjoyed it. Great night overall.

Thank you Ellie for our own little private review, and one with interesting details and critiques I haven't read before.👏👏
