For the past decade it's been on the decline, it's out of touch with UK music and it should be axed!

Replace it with BBC Chart or BBC Pop.

I still can't believe they're still doing such things as 'Innuendo Bingo'

Isn't it time Scott Mills left? He's getting on a bit now and seeing that Radio 1 are trying to attract teens it's not the best image.

    Yeah ok.

Not like the OP to post about "axing" a TV or radio station.

Really? Annie Nightingale is older than him and still pumping out the songs.

Yes, but she's specialist in her field of music. She'll DJ at clubs and have a connection with the crowd.

Scott is just waffle and messing about on air.

Its still got the music spot on , especially so with the Friday and Saturday evening schedules.....the problem lies with some shocking immature presenters in mainstream slots!!

Daytime radio 1, I agree with the OP.

However, I would have to strongly disagree when it comes to the specialist output in the evening and overnight. The music world would be a worse off if the BBC didn't have radio 1s specialist programmes.

Just listen to capital and radio 1 (or radio 3 and classic fm) and you will see how important bbc radio is.

Still seems to have a bigger audience than any commercial national pop station.

Surely Zane Lowe is older than Scott Mills?

I only tune into Radio 1 if I remember when 'Innuendo Bingo' is on :D

By daytime, it pretty much is BBC Chart.
I don't quite understand the hatred for Radio 1. I've recently made the move from Radio 1 to 2, too many loud beepy shouty "songs" for my liking, but as a product for the majority of under 30s who want slick entertainment, a relatively good mix of modern music, good online content and mostly fairly good presenters, Radio 1 still shines above the majority of commercial radio stations, which are, as everyone on here complains, bland and repetitive. Yes, Radio 1 has it's low points (I just don't get Gemma Cairney, Jameela Jamil and the massive musical crossover with 1Xtra, that doesn't really need to happen) but mostly Radio 1 succeeds. Leave it alone!

Replace it with BBC Chart (as mentioned Radio 1 daytime is chart or ahead of chart) or BBC Pop (musically Radio 2 has that position) .

Many MP;s (Tory Boys especially), would happily see the back of Radio 1 and 2 (seeing them as the same), A BBC POP would be too close to Radio 2, though Radio 2 could be a Gold station music pre 1990 (basically over 25 years old unless a core artist like Rod Stewart, Phil Collins).

It'll be replaced with a promoted to FM BBC Radio 6 Music or nothing. My impression is that the BBC is engaging in a focusing its efforts of PSB in under 16s and over 35 year olds as a result of cuts to its funding, with everyone else in-between left to the commercial sector to provide for. Its already happening with TV provision (axe of BBC Three and eventual axe of the few programmes sent online for 16-34 year olds) and I fear (and I hope they are unfounded) that the OPs wish will come true come the next few years and charter renewal.

Young people are an easy target for cuts and when there is significant savings to be found, young adult services and programming is a no-brainer for the BBC brass sadly.

Lily Allen can always be counted on to express her opinion but there was absolutely no holds barred with her latest rant, in which she describes the music industry as sexist while blasting BBC Radio 1 for recently snubbing her from their playlist following poor sales of her comeback album 'Sheezus.'

The 'Hard Out Here' singer soared to number one on the UK charts in May with her third studio album 'Sheezus,' but most of the singles released from the record have bombed with the latest track 'URL Badman' peaking at number 93.

She will have accept she is now an almost 30 year old mum and no longer relavent to teenagers as she was, but doubt if Heart will play her new songs either?

I think Radio 1 is sounding the best it's sounded for years. With the possible exception of Fearne and Gemma, all the DJs are excellent and really enjoyable to listen to.

Greg James' show in particular is a great listen.

But I'm in the target audience. I suspect many of the 'haters' on here are probably over the age of 29.

Oh I'm sure this current bunch of inept, inadequate Tory posh boys would happily flog off Radios 1 & 2 to their mate Murdoch >:( >:(

After the abysmal Royal Mail fiasco, if this evil bunch get re-elected (God forbid) you can bet the BBC will be flogged off for about £1.99

Scott rightly deserves a prime time slot on Radio 2.

Mr Mills is a radio pro that can adapt. Unlike the zzz-lebs that pollute Radio 2 these days

I actually think Scott is the best thing about daytime Radio 1 and I personally love Innuendo Bingo. Though at 37 they certainly don't want me listening. I had this misfortune to listen to G in the Park while driving to Whitby and that was irritating, but to me Greg James is generally annoying. Nighttime is where Radio 1 really comes alive and I love Zane and Phil & Alice some of the music I've discovered thanks to Phallice is really cool and I'm getting in to the world of Kate Tempest thanks to their show, it's just a shame that it comes to an end in September!

    Some cuts coming!
    http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/media/news/a575817/radio-1-axes-djs-ben-cooper-admits-budget-cuts-are-hurting.html
Ben Cooper, controller of Radio 1 & 1Xtra, said: "These cuts to our budget are hurting, it means I have had to make some tough choices and say goodbye to some friends and respected colleagues. I believe these new schedules continue to innovate, reflect and celebrate the UK's youth and music culture."

What are you worried about then!?

In a few years time, certainly. Put Scott on instead of Norton or O'Leary first for a few years and then by the end of the decade he'll be sorted for a weekday show. He can certainly adapt his style easily - the more 'yoof' R1 needs him to be, the more he can turn it on. He still has a few years left in him at R1, though; a move the Chart show once his weekday tenure is done would be likely.

Radio 1 has always been a breeding g ground for Radio 2 presenters, and probably rightly so, but currently I just can't imagine any of them (bar Scott, and perhaps Greg James in 15/20 years time) being anywhere near suitable for a Radio 2 show. That could be an issue. As long as Fearne and Grimmy stay away for the foreseeable...
