The last few weeks the boss at work (director of company) has been making noises about how terrifying he finds the prospect of a labour government, how the snp and greens are nuts and the only people to vote for are tories.
He's even gone so far as saying if anyone wants to vote labour then they can join the dole queue at the end of the road.
He's been getting quite frenzied the last couple of days suggesting he would sack people if they came in and said they voted labour. I think he is only half joking as well...
My question is, not about his policies or ranting, and I think I know the answer, but cn he lawfully fire someone if he finds out they voted labour (or green in my case)

Just say you voted Tory and hate disabled people claiming money that isn't theirs, that should convince him.
He is well out of order he can't fire you, but sounds the type to make things bad for you at work, vote for who you want and lie about it if you have to.
To answer your question, no he cannot and that would be unfair dismissal. I am sure he knows this deep down and is just scaremongering. You could just tell him that your vote is private and you won't say who you voted for - he can't say he will sack you for not voting tory if he doesn't know who you voted for.
This went on a lot during Scotland's referendum, David Cameron asked companies to lean on workers this way. He got supermarkets to threaten price hikes, oil companies and banks were all encouraged to speak out against independence from Better Together influence from boardrooms.
Scumbags all.
This 👍🏻
I might royally take the piss out of an employee that voted for the Greens, but i wouldnt sack them.
But don't tell him as he will clearly hold it against you.
If he asks tomorrow, ill tell him green, I'm not ashamed of voting for the party whose policies I believe in and I'll tell him as much.
Happy voting tomorrow..!
and during the 80s I remember being told several times "if you don't like it there are 3 million eager to take your place" a very common tactic used back then to get you to work for no overtime pay or even work for no pay.
and one boss who physically assaulted a friend of mine (again in the 80s) by dragging him out of the factory and kicking him out of the gates for some minor thing like talking back at him when he was giving him a bollocking for being less than 5 minutes late, when told by my friend that he was going to report him to the police, replied "and who do you think they will believe? WE are in charge now not you lot"
So I totally believe such bosses exist, although to be fair they are the exceptions rather than the rule.
No, it's been against the law for more than 130 years.
The Ballot Act 1872 introduced the secret ballot to prevent this kind of thing.
The Corrupt and Illegal Practices Prevention Act 1883 was brought in to prevent this very kind of intimidation.
Go to the polls tomorrow and vote for who you want, no-one should tell you who to vote for and you have no need to tell anyone who you voted for.
after he left the boss told them straight, join and your out on your ear.
none of them joined.
It's none of his business - indeed he has no reason to ask why, there is a reason why the vote is secret.
I might happen to agree with his opinion of Labour but frankly it is not his place.
Well the Tories got in and all of us apprentices got laid off as soon as we hit 21.
But obviously no he can't.
"every other post"?
At time of writing there are exactly 22 posts including the 2 from the OP in this thread.
ONE advises telling him you voted Tory, another advises voting Labour just to spite him, another says why not say you voted green and another advises wearing a Nicola Sturgeon mask,
so once again your rather fanatical desperation to have a go at Labour and those who have the audacity to do as you say and...
Leaves you with egg on your face,
welcome back by the way.
There is a big difference between your boss telling you to vote Tory or get fired and people from this forum begging for your vote( they are just joking). Vote for whom ever you want, but please find another job and work for a better Employer.
