Planet Rock

I have only recently discovered it. Great music, on the whole good jocks who know their stuff. Anyone got any thoughts?

I have listened to the station and it dose seem good but at times my music taste is more for soft rock like the type of music Absolute Radio play.
Im also a big fan of 80s music and early 90s. As well as love songs and some country music.
I do tened to listen to local radio 70% of the time as anyone who knows me will tell you.

Not a bad station but I prefer GMG's Rock Radio stations, The Jock's seem to have more of a personality than the Planet Rock Jock's. Music's very similar.

Planet Rock is the only music station I listen to these days.

Darren Redick is my favourite DJ.

PR is about the only station since the Radio Caroline (at sea) days that would play 'White Bird' by It's A Beautiful Day, 'Night Moves' by Bob Seger or anything at all by Golden Earring and Focus, as well as all the prog music.

    Long may they reign!

Not heard White Bird on Rock Radio, but all the others are played frequently.

Planet Rock is a lot more specialist than GMG's homogenised Rock Radio.

Same here. Spent today working next to a DAB radio and had it on most of the day. Top quality music and interesting DJs too. Not many adverts either.
Was just about to turn it off at midnight when Money by Pink Floyd came on, then Tom Petty, then Rush, then U.F.O. Great sweep of tracks there.

They should just play loads of prog through the night... that would be some good listening

Whilst good for listeners, not good for the loss making station, Jazz FM seems to have been better at getting ads.

I never liked Darren to begin with, but now he's one of my favourites.
I also really enjoy Rob Birnie (when I get the chance to listen) and Bernard Doherty. In fact the only one I can take or leave is Murray J, as he doesn't have much of a personality.
Even Lucio at breakfast is a lot better than when he started.

We did some work for PR outside Wembley Stadium the other year, at the AC/DC gig. We were handing out car stickers at the end of the gig. I got a nice PR t-shirt!

The great thing about Planet Rock is they're not frightened of tracks lasting more than 3 minutes or album tracks and the Prog is what makes them distinctive.

I really like Planet Rock but I think it's a shame their presenters aren't allowed to show much of their personalities.

Alice Cooper? Why?!? Terrible presenter, can't understand why they seem to have his pre-recorded shows almost every day.
I also think that they could vary their music a lot more than they do, I seem to hear Paranoid a lot, ZZ Top "Legs" etc, it like they have a playout system that only has one or two tracks from certain groups which is a shame. That said I do listen a great deal, and is pretty much my go to music station on DAB

I like Alice, the only thing better would be if he was able to broadcast live - but I entirely understand why he can't/doesn't.

    The listening figures are out.
Planet Rock has gone up to 857,000 listeners each week.
Assuming that's a UK only figure, that's 1.3% of the UK population are tuning in.

Spread the word and let's get them to the million mark.

They should pick up listeners when Rock Radio changes name/format.

I think planet rock is great but they could pay more attention to current classic rock with possibly some shows that highlight the latest releases. There is so much good new rock/metal/prog being released with virtually no outlet on mainline radio and this would be healthy for future releases.Compared to the rest of uk radio though planet rock is the only station catering for rock fans.

Phoebe Winter covers this in her late night show.

We have 4 DAB radios in the house all set to Planet Rock, as is a dedicated window on my PC. I only wish I had a DAB in the car, instead of having to make do with Radio 2.

The mix of tracks played has suffered a little since the station was bought up with the playlist being a little limited, but ads are kept to a miminum and there are no 'short versions' of rock classics like Radio 2 inflict on you.

Rob Birnie, Darren 'The Badger' Reddick and Nicky Horne are all good rock jocks, and if you like classic rock such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and the like, alomh with newer groups like The Foo Fighters and MUse, the Planet Rock is worth a listen.
