Shocking is the wrong word for it. Ruth Lorenzo not making the final was a great shame not a shock. She was the only one of the five who had sung in the bottom 2 (twice by that time) and she was the highest odds to leave, she didn't have a regional vote either...it wasn't shocking because it already looked like she wasn't getting enough support. I still wanted her to win though (annoying voters!)
Ella and James being in the bottom 2 at the same time was by far the biggest shock. Nicole's face said it all when Rylan and UJ had been called out safe. James and Ella were always said to be 2 finalists, the bookies had both at high odds to win the whole thing, both had celebrity support, both sang incredibly well on the night. It was just a shock! Even bigger was Ella then leaving! The person who Adele had raged about, was proclaimed to be the next Leona/Alex and who was the favorite to win for 10 weeks had the lowest votes on Week 7? That was just shocking...
I'd have to say Ruth Lorenzo, the fact she didn't make the final was unbelievable!
What do you guys think?
Ruth was in the bottom 2 in weeks 2 and 5 and was saved by deadlock the first time and by the judges the second time so I wasn't that surprised that she finished 5th in the public vote.
I agree that James and Ella bottom 2 was shocking and Carolyn Poole receiving the least public votes in week 1 last year was a surprise also, given the amount of support she seemed to have on here, and the outrage the time before that she wasn't chosen at judges' houses.
Ella v James has to be the biggest shock of the lot as others have said. Sometimes a favourite had stumbled into the bottom two before but never two of them at the same time.

I'm wondering if that will be replicated this year with a Tamera V Nicholas situation I think it could as they ain't as popular as people think
The 'original' shock, which was the Conways being put through over Maria. I'm sure they were Simons act and he went on to vote them off a few weeks later. That was a shock as well.

Yes and that moment was the first time (other than the Steve Brookstein incident) where the press gave the show full attention. The decision to send Maria home was criticised by all quarters and Louis got a lot of flack for it; even Simon was unimpressed with the decision. The following week Sharon drenched Louis in water and Louis quit the show after one too many jibes from Simon. Obviously he returned after Simon made a very public apology.
Now we'd dismiss all this as a PR stunt but back then it was taken more seriously.

When you think about it, Cowell must have been behind the Maria expulsion. Louis would never go against the producers and Cowell's wishes just to save an act because they were Irish.....I'm convinced Cowell ordered it to cause controversy (and succeeded spectacularly : people were still talking about Louis's "decision" to save the Conways years later).

I'm pretty sure he did to which probably explained Louis quitting; he knew he'd get a backlash but when the person who told him to do it joined in...

Yes, that's the way I see....Louis willingly went along with Cowell's instructions, thinking it would be entertaining but then seriously underestimated the backlash and the fact that he would end up taking dog's abuse over it.
It was Cowell who played everyone for fools though. He probably knew Maria had zero chance of winning and brilliantly engineered this publicity stunt.
Lucie going over Jedward and Maria going over the Conway Sisters were the biggest shocks to me. Maria was a really big shock, probably because it was the first time the judges decision really didn't make sense or match their comments. Lucie leaving was ridiculous, probably one of the times the programme has made me really angry. By last year I wasn't even shocked they saved Rylan over Carolynne because I guessed it was going to happen based on previous years, as much as I didn't want it to.
Another shock - when Katie seemed to give up half way through her save me song, yet was still saved over TreyC.
People wasting money to watch/listen to Jedward and Rylan each week...
It's not "wasting" money if you enjoy it. I voted for them both (Rylan especially loaaads of times) and don't regret it at all, they were both the highlights of their series.
Don't see the point voting for someone like Rylan he never wanted to be a singer.
Stacey's free to vote for whoever she wants to. Rylan's genre was very clearly pointed out as dance anyway, so he did - it just wasn't the conventional pop genre.
Wagner was the only finalist so far who has confessed to wanting to be in the entertainment industry - it was never about singing for him.

Rylan was after the fame and money he was friends with Katie Price before auditioning for X Factor.

Yes he did and he's still interested in music now. He's taken up every opportunity and good on him for doing so. He's already been more successful than the majority of acts to ever grace the show. So much for people saying he'd disappear straight after it...

Just because he's been on a modelling show doesn't make him "fame hungry" as people like to say. He's a gorgeous looking guy and had previous experience from the age of 16 so why not go for it? He's also got music online and done songwriting, it's not like he randomly decided to apply for the XFactor.
Probably Ella vs James, even though I didn't like either of them.
I have to say, they both ended up giving horrific performances in the sing off that night!

Saving Jedward over Lucie was just ridiculous, still can't believe that happened!
He must have known they had Under Pressure lined up for the following week so wanted them to go through.
saving them was one thing
what really annoyed me , and most others at the time, was it completely contradicted everything he had said previously

Laura white leaving over Ruth was a huge one too, and absolutely ridiculous for either of them to be bottom 2.
James and Ella - didn't like either, so I was happy one of them was going. Sadly, the other won.
Christopher Maloney making top 3.
I think a Nicholas V Tamera situation will be on that list by week 6 wrongfully so
