Wow do you guys like hobby in being condescending?

I could say the same thing about your Marmite, and Twiglets. For as much as you think Hershey's tastes nasty, I could say the same thing about the barrel scrapings called Marmite, Blech! Except Marmite actually does smell, look, and taste gross, where as you guys say Hershey's only tastes bad to you, at least it smells and looks good.

Well we have this funny habit. If something has a bad reputation we will move heaven and earth to try it. Like when mum told us as children not to touch hot objects we do so anyway just to see. Ignoring all other options simply to confirm (and conform to) the notion that yes Hershey is indeed as horrible as we've heard. Then back on our shores we can recline in the quiet satisfaction of how fortunate we are to have such an array of superior choco options on the table. Just like on holidays in Australia we make a bee-line for the vegemite and then ridicule the inferior palates of the Ockers. Pointedly avoiding the pies, pavlova, jaffas, roo meat, etc. :D

Marmite and Twiglets are very niche products though, most people accept they taste like complete bum. The difference is Hershey's is apparently a very big success, more generally accepted as tasting good. That'll be why we're so baffled, seeing as it actually tastes like vomit.

Haha :-) well at least some of you can admit Marmite is nasty. Haha well I've had UK and European chocolate and it's not bad, I wouldn't turn it down but I do prefer Hershey (especially Kisses), and See's, even Ghiradelli. But Cadbury tastes like cheap gross palm oil chocolate, Yuck! Like the Easter bunny chocolates http://www.candyblog.net/blog/item/palmer_hollow_chocolate_flavored_bunny/ 2nd Ingredient "Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (Palm Kernel Oil and/or Palm Oil)"

But a Hershey Kiss to me tastes great and melts on my tongue Yumm!

Everytime I see Hersheys mentioned 'tastes like sick' appears so often I always imagine they write it on the packet. :D

It's one of the oddest mysteries of the British, the continual criticism of Hershey's. I think it more of a habit because it really is not 'that' bad. I actually love it and must have a bar one or two times per week. But tastes are different and who is really to say who is right.

I always like to point out those typical whole fished British pies with those fish heads sticking out of them which are a national favo(u)rite. Talk about vomit inducing. (But I'm not one to call out a food of another country and trash it :D )

You all should try our pies. We do good pies in the US. Strawberry Rhubarb, Coconut Creme with chocolate over a macadamia nut crust, Passionfruit Peach and the traditional American pies. Apple, Cherry and so on and so on.

British forum members - definitely. I couldn't name a single person who's actually said the word "Hershey's" IRL within earshot, yet I've seen it too many times on DS. IRL, when you're socialising, you generally have more interesting things to chat about and criticising Hershey's isn't tip-of-the-tongue material. I don't think any of my friends even know what Hershey's is... Online, why not, it's a free-for-all, no holds barred, bitch-fest. :p

What the.. I don't even. I haven't a clue what a whole fished British pie with fish heads sticking out is. Are you sure it's a national favourite, or did you see one in a Disney film and assume we all eat them regularly?

And if we're gonna drag 'national favourites' through the mud... Beef Jerky. Tried some for the first time a couple of weeks back and can only describe it as a cross between plastic and a dog chew. So there. :p

I believe you're refering to a stargazy pie and far from being a national dish, it's from a very small cornish village called Mousehole. Taking a risk on upsetting a few cornish nationionalists, they do have some strange tastes down there though!

I am not partial to Hersheys myself, but Nutter Butters are scrummy and I always bring at least 20 home with me.

Given your previous post I'm assuming you are taking the piss.

Why do people always want it one way?

Anyway is it true that Hershey's uses sour milk??

I find most milk chocolate(whatever brand) too sickly.

Hahah, I can take criticism and give it ;-) I've sought out European chocolate, they sell the purple Cadbury bars here, and several other European brands, I usually get milk chocolate haven't really tried any European dark.

But really I do like Hershey's, from the factory tour I went on, no they use fresh milk. They even had singing cow animatronics telling all about how the milk was fresh from Hershey's Dairy.

Ohh I love a good dark chocolate, could eat it by itself but especially mixed with chewy caramel like in a Riesen candy.

I'm British, and I don't mind Hershey's. It's not my favourite, but I'll have a Hershey's branded chocolate at least twice a month:).

Given that Cadbury is now owned by an American company that shafted the Cadbury workers in keynsham. Another (now ex) British company gone to the wall. I have boycotted Cadbury's chocolate now. Not that I eat a lot of chocolate regardless.

Never tried Hersheys. An American herself no less told me that American chocolate (and Hersheys) was vile.

Saw a fat American kid on the tube once in London eating two big bars of chocolate at the same time, one in each hand and he would take a bite out of one bar of chocolate and then the other. It was disgusting to witness.

What the fudge does gipping mean? :D If it's a diss, don't be dissin' Oreos - they're bad ass!

Tried Hershey's chocolate over the weekend, to see what the fuss was about, and I must be a eating something different coz it tasted just as good as Cadbury's to me.

And Tesco's are also selling Hershey's Kisses at the moment - cookies & cream flavour... Better than any cadbury's product I've ever had - went through 3 bags of them (only get about 10 in a bag). Will stock up on them before they stop selling them.

Also tried Lindt 90% dark chocolate - hard core - vile. I think 50% dark chocolate is enough!

Hershey's isn't very nice. It's very waxy and not to my taste. But then, I don't like chocolate very much, anyway!

However, some American confectionery is up there with the best. Bazooka is the best bubble gum. No one does cheesecake like the New Yorkers. And one day I hope root beer is readily available in the UK.:(
