Olympic Logos

I notice that in promoting their Olympics coverage the BBC uses the Olympic five-ring logo but Channel 4 does not use the separate Paralympics logo when promoting its coverage of the games. Just wondered if anyone knew why, any sort of restriction on C4 ?

Channel 4 use the London 2012 Paralympic logo. One would assume as more people would be familer with the London 2012 logo than the Paralympic symbol.

Where? Their trailers just have the plain text "Official Paralympics Broadcaster", or something similar. No logo. Unlike the BBC, who use the Olympic Rings - not the London 2012 logo - with similar text.

Does anyone like the London 2012 logo? Personally I think it's bloody awful but I'd like to know what you think?

It works well on the torch and in the right colours. I guess I've just got use to it, but I think it's pretty iconic and I'm glad they've gone with something bold and versatile instead of some sterile corporate logo.

So I hated it like everyone else when it first came around now I really like it and the font is very good too.

The trouble is the rest of the world probably have had the same amount of time to get used to it.

I saw a report this morning that merchandising is already being heavily discounted, I wonder if one reason is the general hatred of the logo.

I said a few years ago on this forum when it was first displayed that it looked like a deformed ogre looking at his private parts!
The one eyed dolls look awful as well.

I've never heard anyone even discuss it, other than to make the "it looks like Lisa Simpson giving..." joke (you probably know the rest!).

I don't think most people care much about the logo (I think it's good), and I also don't think it's why the merchandise is allegedly being discounted. I wouldn't buy a tracksuit for any special occasion (I know there's likely more items other than tracksuits available, but I can't imagine anything other than a simple T-shirt flying off the shelves, despite the uniqueness of the event).

On its own I'm not a fan, but used in context in brochures, tickets, Olympic torch etc I don't mind it - most Olympic logos are pretty terrible to be honest.

Merchandising is going quite well. Despite most retail stores only ramping up their displays now, they've already raised more than half their total target for the whole games period.

Some of the mascots / logo from previous big events like World Cup are still remembered. I can't imagine these being remembered after it is all over.

I have it on my debit card and I hate it. As soon as LLoyds start issuing them with the classic black horse picture again I'm going to ask for a new one or else i'm stuck with it until after the next olympics.

I can remember when the logo was unvailed for the first time and the negative rection that followed others to do better designs.

I thought this one was good and clever http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/image...ichard_416.jpg

I thought that was pretty poor. Remember this has to go on cans of coke and Big Macs around the world, there has be an instantly recognisable visual design - which that doesn't have.

Rio's is good:

It's crap

It looks moderately better in Union Jack livery, but looks awful in the garish pink and yellow.
