Never like Daniel Craig and never think a proper Bond film will be made again.

I thought the new Q did OK and Daniel Craig is the best Bond they have had
the Bond franchise was a shambles and going nowhere most people agree that Mr Craig put life back into the project with Casino Royale
He does a lot of his own own stunts and I like his gritty acting style
Saw it last night and really enjoyed it. Although the budget was mega and they filmed in Istanbul, Shanghai and Macau it still seemed to be a Bond for the recession with the London and Highlands settings, and the deadbeat Bond for alot of the film.
The chopper scene was particularly thrilling.
I thought quantum of solace was bad !!! Tedious in the extreme,. 2 and a half hours. Used to enjoy the old bonds. humour (missing here) gadgetsm girls...non stop action.
Only action is at the beginning 10 mins and 20 mins at the end. The rest is a mundane rubbishy plot. Not for kids either. The ones in our cinema were really restless. Boring !
What on earth does the phrase 'non-stop ation' even mean - why would you want to watch a film like that? You would be bored to tears after 30 minutes. It may sound good as a tag line on a poster, but films tend to be made up of other things as well, like story, plot, acting, with action sequences serving to punctuate the movie now and again.
And were you asleep during the rest of the movie apart from the beginning and the end?
Opening sequence was mega, and the closing sequence was tense and exciting.

But in between there were fight sequences (notably the stylishly filmed one on in the high building in Shanghai), a major, major action sequence involving a tube train (missed that one, did we?), MI6 being blown up, a foot chase across London, as well as plenty of tense sequences, some humour, some in jokes and a few nice crowd pleasing moments.
You sound like you are stuck in the past...longing for the gimmicky, jokey Bond films of old. Those days are gone and Bond has to move with the times.

Probably not, but the days of the sex kittens and women lining up to be bedded by Bond are exremely passe and ust wont work these days.
I don't understand people hating on this movie because it's not like the Bond movies of old.
The movies have gone through many casting changes, a few overhauls and changes in direction for people to surely realise the Bond of old can never be repeated, and it has to change.
And it changed radically some years back with Craigs first outing...yet some people are still expressing disappointment because the movies are not like the old ones...as Annie Wilkes famously said...did y'all go and get amnesia or somethin'?
They have not 'been like the old ones' for a very long time, and you either need to get used to that ad move with the times, or stick to watching your collection of the old films at home.
I saw this at the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end. If I have any negative comment at all it would be, maybe, the film is a little long. But, I suppose that can happen when you have a good story; it gets hard to cut bits out.
Best two scenes: the 'back-lit fight' looked just amazing on the big screen. It just won't be anywhere near the same on TV. And, the 'DB5 moment' . It's the big 'five-oh' anniversary so they are allowed sentimental license as far as I'm concerned. The way it was unveiled, M's sarcasm and driving off to THAT tune, it was wonderfully done and , to my peripheral senses at least, something that brought an appreciative reaction from most in the cinema. It's scenes like these that actually make it worth the effort of going out and seeing a film in the cinema with all the bells and whistles.
(oh, and Silva was a great return of a proper OTT psycho Bond villain.)
The ending was a complete shock for me, but again, I thought they storied it really well with the way they finished off the film. I think in some ways it sort of tidies things up. The producers are in a position where they have a choice of what type of Bond film they want to make next. I'd be quite happy to see them continue to 'soften' (if that's the right word) Craig's character with some pastiche from Bond of old.
Saw it yesterday in Imax, with my 13 year old son, and you have got it in one, that is how I saw it, the film is fantastic, that silhouette fight should win an Oscar on its own, they are setting Bond up for the future, an ex sas M...... This is the best Bond movie,,you need to see twice to get everything,,so much in there...
and whats with the gay experience reference,,when he is being stroked, he said, what makes you think, its not my first time..

that scene when Silva came on to Bond was really creepy! Obviously trying to push Bond's buttons to see how he'd deal with it. You could sense the discomfort coming from Daniel Craig, superb performance.
I really enjoyed the movie right up until the ending, which left a real bitter taste.
The whole plot of the film was about saving M. All that struggle for nothing. So her death...
...for me made the film a complete waste of time!
Funny really...a lot of people had major probems with that character when they were first cast.
But I can't agree that it was a waste...I always adore any movie that has the guts to kill off a major character, because it means all bets are off and anything can happen...you don't know who will survive to the end, and who won't and that adds immesurably to the tension.
And it's also not a waste because there is already an equally fine actor stepping into that role for future movies.

I think you're overstating it a little, but I agree we haven't had an outstanding interpretation of a modern Bond girl in any of the Craig films. Solange in Casino Royale and Sévérine in Skyfall are two perfectly good secondary Bond girls, but I think the Brosnan era had perfectly good and "non bimbo" Bond girls in Natalia, Xenia, Wai Lin and Electra also the idea of Jinx was good if not executed properly (the less said about Christmas Jones the better), and we haven't had a modern version of one of those yet.
Saw skyfall last night, thoroughly enjoyed it, albeit slightly too long imo.
too many drawn out tracking shots and long range stuff. but only about 10mins worth.
I think I heard Judi Dench's health is failing, i think someting to do with her eyes, so this ending was fitting for her, handong off to a new task master, and Ralph fiennes is a damn fine actor too.
one slight problem I had was this:
New Q who claims he wrote the encryption protocols that Silva uses, plugs the badguys laptop into the MI6 mainframe, allowing the mahcine to infect and "hack" the system allowing for Silva to escape.
I mean come on...how dumb is that, for a supposed super intelligent IT geek?
I work in IT and you never attach a possibly comprised mahcine onto the main network.
maybe it was onpurpose or innocence on the non field operative Q role?
Picky it maybe, but the film pushed the tech side of things, so get it right imo
Not a spoiler as it's mentioned frequently, but Bond is shot and (apparantly) falls to his death off a high railway bridge in Turkey. Post titles, and three months later, JB is now in South-East Asia (Thailand? Borneo?) getting drunk and over-friendly with a dusky beach beauty.
I enjoyed the movie, but feel the travelogue aspect of these two locations is a bit excessive. How did he survive, have his injuries tendered, and travel several thousand miles to a different continent for R+R and rumpy pumpy?
The titles were very good, thought they explained it well, how he got to the Far East......wasn't there a plug hole....;)

I agree. I prefer the films where Bond strikes up a meaningful relationship of sorts (or as meaningful as we're ever likely to get with Bond! ).
Pierce Brosnan had some lovely Bond girl relationships. Electra was a wicked and evil strong baddie, and Jinx was sensational as Bond's professional partner. I really looked forward to Brosnan and Jinx doing another Bond film together, but it was not meant to be.
I loved Casino Royal when Daniel Craig's Bond genuinely fell in love with Vesper.
The lack of Bond girls in both Quantum of Solace and in Skyfall was a major disappointment for me.

Yes, I thought that too. As a previous poster said, Daniel Craig's discomfort with the come-on from Silvas was very well acted.

I think too that Sophie Marceau was an excellent wicked Bond girl (and smoking hot :eek: ) it was almost a shame she betrayed him
