I agree with your marks on these two, and your assessments. I too watched both recently and thought The Dark Knight Rises dragged on and on and on. Is this really the same actor who was so promising in American Psycho? What a dreary course his career seems to be taking. And Killing Them Softly I can see going back to quite often. I always find Brad Pitt watchable, and he delivered again in my opinion.
Thanks for the welcome!
I watched Killing Them Softly on a whim because the same director had made The Assassination of Jesse James with Brad Pitt. Pitt reminds me of old school actors like Steve McQueen, in fact Killing Them Softly could have been made in the 70s with McQueen in the Brad Pitt role.
Agree with you on Christian Bale, now that Bale is finished with the Batman franchise I really hope he can get back to some meatier roles, his work in The Machinist and American Psycho shows how good an actor he is when he isn't chasing a cheque.
Friends with kids - not as excruciatingly bad as I thought it would be . Kinda similar humour to bridesmaids but without the slapstick . But for those who have seen it . Would parents really swear like that in front of kids ?
Killing Them Softly - Enjoyed this a lot more than i thought i was going to, a bit more depth to it than the average gangster film and some great performances from the cast. 7.5/10 ( would have been 8 but the violence was a little too graphic ).
Now You See Me - Very glossy magic-show robbery revenge film. A bit contrived plotwise, and featuring not one old timer but two in Freeman and Caine, and a "were going to have a sequel ending" - But pretty enjoyable even with that crap weighing it down. 7.5/10 ( would have been 8
but for the ending ).
Big fan of the tv show Leverage so ate up with gusto all that plan within a plan within a plan etc etc etc. And am pleased I didn't twig he was the ring leader - I was so certain she was the daughter
Now you see me - fantastic guessing film that got the old grey matter working overtime. Tad confused at the end credits though when the mentalist mentions something about colour. What did I miss there?
Watched Star Trek Into darkness earlier, bit meh. JJ should give it a rest now didn't think much to it.
Haha! I've never seen Iron man 3 but I enjoyed the review
Haha cheers, and don't waste your time watching that pile of crap, trust me!
Olympus Has Fallen
Every cliché in the book dragged out of the cupboard, ridiculous storyline, overly macho posturing and annoying 'God Bless Team USA' flag waving. Hugely annoying on every concievable level.
Django Unchained. Great Tarantino film. (I loved the hooded attack argument - nearly falling on the floor with laughter). The film was way over the top, typical bloodbath but I loved it from start to finish.

Did end up understanding in the end. Actually pretty violent at times!

I thought it was a cool little movie. Nice twists, good gore and some really funny dialogue. Worth the watch for sure. 7/10
Good solid French horror, with a nice twist at the end

Heath Ledger's best work.
It's still rubbish.

Starts well, then descends into the usual shit. So many horror films have no idea how to end.....
