This premieres tonight on A&E although there are a few places online that have it already. Anyone else looking forward to it?

Apparently it will be set in the present day:

I watched the first episode and was surprised by how much I liked it. When the project was announced I didn't think it sounded too interesting.

Yes, there is a thread there but it belongs here. There is nothing remotely of a science fiction or fantasy nature about the show.

It could be called Cult, though, as it's based on an iconic Horror book and film. The new Bates Motel series seems to be on the borderline of Horror and Crime Drama.

It will also be interesting to see where the Hannibal series ends up being discussed on this forum. Although that one seems closer to CSI-style Crime Drama.

I could see ITV2 or LIVING tv picking this up. Living tv are need of a spooky drama.

Looks like the reviews of last nights premiere are mainly positive.
I'm really looking forward to watching it later.

You mean Sky Living, and they've moved away from their 'spooky' themed programmes somewhat since Sky took over, but yeah it would still fit the channel quite well.

    Just watched this.
I really enjoyed it, it was great seeing my favourite iconic movie landmark in all it's glory - The Bates Mansion.
I think it's a very clever thing they've done, bringing the story to the present day yet it's about Norman and Mothers early life.

It ends on a weird note, suggesting it isn't going to be very "pleasant".

Thanks, is this going to be a long term show or a one off drama?

    It's a series, probably 10 or 12 episodes

10 episodes in the first season. Ratings in the US for the first episode were good for the channel so I am confident it will get renewed for a second season.

It wasn't me who started the other thread :o

Just purely noted the fact that one existed as I'd (as it happens) just been trawling through it when I noticed another one.

I wasn't blaming you, so I apologize if that is the way it came across.

So what is the hook other than Norman's early life?

Yes there is the book under the carpet and the girl at the end but there doesn't seem to be anything to sustain a 10 or 12 week series let alone on-going. I mean, we know they got away with the fella's murder - for now;)

So, is it just a 'soap'?

I'd love to be able to see this - unfortunately I've got Freeview:mad: Loved 'pscyho' in its day!

Sounds a bit like our UK version we had many years ago: Crossroads Motel :D

    Just discovered this on Universal.

I am too late to record the first episode, is there anywhere else I can see it?

Would missing the first episode matter, ie what happened?

Is this worth bothering with for those that have been watching it?

    Thanks :)
