Anybody got any good ideas on how to make an income online? Is advertisiting good or an eBay shop? If so what is good to sell?

You can sell pretty much anything on Ebay.

The knack is to either get a source of very inexpensive goods that you can sell for a good profit online or have a niche product or maybe something you can make yourself where the mark up is high

eg I'm a plant nurseryman. I can propagate up to 200 plants an hour that a few weeks later would have a retail value of between £1.99 and £5.99 each and they cost me the pot and the compost ( say 12p ) + my time.

Lots doing it online though so look and see what is selling.

Also i was searching for a pine trunk/box earlier today and there are lots on there selling at surprisingly high prices that an average DIY'er could make for 20% of the sale price.

What knowledge have you got of anything specialised ? Can you market the stuff on line.

Go to auctions, buy cheap, sell on line. Ask if you can go through people's skips.

I did this recently and passed lots of the stuff i found onto my next door neighbour who works for a charity shop. They sold it for £100 . You could have sold it online or at a car boot . In 15 minutes I found a nice pair of binoculars in a case, 3 electric radiators, loads of "as new" timber, 10 pairs of nearly new shoes, a huge range of carpenters tools, tool boxes, 2 electric drills , 3 electric plant propagators etc etc

Lots of people simply cannot be bothered to sell stuff or give it to charity. Take advantage of that.

Problem with eBay is postage as there are so many Chinese and similar sellers who seems to offer goods for 1p with free P&P on some stuff and most UK based sellers can't compete. eBay is also over-saturated on a lot of items as a lot of people are all wanting to build a 'working from home' job for themselves.

You need to be selling something unique and have a lot of product knowledge to make a real success of eBay these days in my opinion.

If you are intending to run your business in the medium term, then start finding out about "Blockchain" and "Bitcoin". There has just been an interesting TED talk about Blockchain, which ( very simply ) is a worldwide database of transactions, which by no means are limited to processing Bitcoins. The talk is fairly long, but you should get a good idea of what it is all about :

    https://www.ted.com/talks/don_tapscott_how_the_blockchain_is_changing_money_and_business

Then visit the Blockchain website, and explore a bit :

    https://www.blockchain.com/

And find out how you as a small retailer ( or even a consumer ) can start off by setting up a Bitcoin wallet, and finding out who you can trade with anywhere in the World :

    https://bitcoin.org/en/

and check them out on Wikipedia too. You will need to know about these with time, so best to learn now, because they are taking off...

I agree with this.People are so used to buying cheap stuff from China that they want everything else for 99p. I stopped selling clothes on e-bay because of this.

But from a buyers point of view when looking on eBay I tend to buy from a UK seller for a slightly higher price than the ones from China which will probably take weeks to come and be of low quality.

Same here. I will avoid buying anywhere from China or international to think of it, always buy from UK sellers because I don't want to wait a month for it to arrive.

I also don't like selling on Ebay because of the paypal and ebay fees. If the OP is creative you can make/craft things and sell them on Esty or start up a youtube channel...

    Sex sells as above.

You can do it all the time, even making stuffing "Oh, it's moist" "Oh, it's a bit dry"

I agree with the two posts above. Performing online on an adult cam site will make money providing you are attractive or have a niche that caters for differing tastes e.g. very obese.

The days of generating income by cheap tat on EBay are long gone.

Try making a few well produced YouTube videos on something yiu are passionate about and slowly as they become popular you might get some ad revenue. It's something I could do but just don't have the patience to record and edit content.

Unless you have a unique product I think you can forget Ebay. I used to make huge amounts of money on it but the competition became so fierce I jacked it in.

If you're willing to dedicate the time and are good with statistics then you can earn money from online gambling. You need to work out systems so you bet with multiple different sites in order to make sure that you can't lose. You might only win £10 profit from £200 worth of bets but if you do that 10 times a day it all adds up.

As always, google is your friend with that one.

Look up matched betting. You obviously don't know how it works.

It's possible to make small profits with close to zero risk either by exploiting differential odds among bookmakers or taking advantage of sign up and continuous play bonuses in a specific way. The betting sites are continually cracking down on it though so it's difficult.

Also, with enough research and effort you can beat the bookies odds if you bet enough over a period of time. The bet makers are set up to take profit from the average punter, not the professional gambler. As with the above though, if they spot you making a profit on a regular basis then there's a strong chance that they will just ban you.

So no money to be made on eBay? Not even a few hundred quid a month?

Not unless you can find something unique to sell. If it was that easy to make a few hundred a month everyone would be doing it.

Do you have knowledge of a niche product that may sell well on eBay?

what let's eBay down is the charges they charge for advertising and the paypal charges, it's ridiculous. then you have to deal with all the dumbasses that are on there.

You could probably make a few hundred a month, if you can afford to spend a few thousand a month on stock.

Lots of negativity on here. I buy on a lot on Ebay and note how many sellers have sold dozens or hundreds of items.

Niche products or home made stuff with a big market works. My first post in reply to this which seems to have been missed by the thread starter gave lots of suggestions.

I recently purchased a set of 6 Calvin Klein boxers from EBay they cost me £25 the original price was £30 but my offer was accepted plus they threw in a free pair.

I ordered XL when they arrived in very smart packaging and you wouldn't have known they where fake etc I couldn't even pull them up my leg and they wouldn't even fit my brother who was small waist. The seller had been on EBay for 9 years, over 2300 positive reviews with 100% score, the seller had sold over 107,000 pairs.

I did some investigation work and found he had bought them from China for just 75p per pair.

I messaged the seller he came back with a full refund plus £50 if I didn't report him and yes he said keep the boxers.

So there you have it, thats how you make money.

i ordered a nike t shirt on there a few weeks ago because i couldn't find the right one i wanted in other shops. i always knew most popular brands are fake on there but i thought i would risk it for 10 quid. the back of the t shirt was way smaller than the front lol. looked and felt horrible.

i don't know how eBay would sort it out, but something needs doing with all the fake crap on there.
