Any feminists here who thought they'd detest the twins?

It seems quite a contradiction that their profession goes against all my feminist views (go figure) but I have really enjoyed watching them. Are there any other women on DSF that have been really surprised to have become fans of a couple of Playboy bunnies? I've surprised myself.
They are not the stupid airhead bimbos I wrongly presumed them to be. They are smart and shrewd and entertaining. Regardless of their job they haven't taken any macho shit from the little boys in CBB. They're playing the game brilliantly and this is why I will be voting in favour of them like I did in the last eviction. Twins FTW!

I'm not very feminist but I thought they were typical blonde dumbasses who would be the first to leave.

Now though, I quite love them and I do hope that either them or Michael wins! Those twins are definitely the biggest shock to me... I never thought in a million years I'd like them.

Note to self - stop judging people. lol

I'm not sure I'd call myself a feminist  but I'll admit I had stereotypical preconceptions of the twins when they went in the house. I thought they'd be a bit brain-dead and do nothing but talk about their hair and make-up and maybe giggle at everything the boys said but they've really surprised me, they're astute, intelligent, confident and quite feisty young women. There's things I don't like about them but it's been interesting to watch them and realise I was wrong to pre-judge.

Feminists are all for equality and women's rights and usually detest jobs that degrade, exploit and objectify women, so I'm surprised to like them despite detesting their profession.

Well, I consider myself a feminist, and so I despise the objectification of women and the pornification of society. BUT...as a feminist, I NEVER despise women. I try to recognise the lack of opportunities a lot of girls and women have globally, that might lead to certain ways of earning money as desirable.

I mean - women own 1% of the world's property!! They do almost 70% of the world's work for 10% of the pay. That is ridiculous!!! And the real immorality here.

Researchers estimate it will take 200 years for women to be on a par with men re. opportunities/promotion/pay. A snail could crawl along the Great Wall of China quicker!! SO when a girl/woman earns a living through prostitution/porn whatever, I never vilify her, but see that things need to become fairer in society so that they have better opportunities.

And I like the twins very much.

I'm a feminist, didn't prejudge them, but can't stand the fact that they put other women down for their looks and advise other women to have breast and nose jobs.

They have made me laugh, at times, and I'm glad they haven't taken any shit from the likes of Kirk and Frankie, but that doesn't make up for their faults, in my eyes.

I am a man, but think we would be much better off if women ruled the world.....

So I did not expect to like the very worst in womanhood or so I thought........I think a lot of their so called arrogance is just a front tbh. probably having spent all their lives defending themselves..

I'm all for equality and women's rights but I also think if a woman wants to be a stripper, lapdancer, page 3 girl or whatever then that's her choice. As long as she does it of her own free will and is happy doing it then I think it's up to her.

However I will admit to being a hypocrite because even though I have no problem with other women doing jobs like that I wouldn't want my daughter to. :o

I hate that women are encouraged to mutilate themselves to fit in with some stupid beauty ideal, and it is really frustrating when women buy into it and normalise it like it is a desirable thing to do...YET, when you see the pressures women are under from the media, 'the male gaze'. their own peers, to look and act a certain way, I can kind of understand why they see cosmetic surgery as ok....even when the reality is that it is mutilating an already good-as-it-is female body.

Yes women should have a choice, but I just feel that it's still men pulling the strings behind the scenes that make more money than the actual stripper/glamour model etc. I get so frustrated that women who do these jobs think that because they make a bit of money they're empowering themselves.
I wouldn't want my daughter's to have a job like that either. I hope I'm bringing them up to believe they're brainy and beautiful and that they don't need to use their bodies to get by.

The Guardian ran a good piece some time ago about the macho culture in the UK that is basically causing untold wreakage to society.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/nov/25/dangerous-masculinty-everyone-risk

Some of the figures are beyond the pale. The world, at the very least, would certainly be different if women had more power.

I concur completely. These women are still performing for men, paid for by men....bought and sold and mutilated by men. Not to mention the effect the whole industry is havng on ALL women who are not choosing to be objectified.

That's a pretty enlightened attiude, for a feminist. ;) It always strikes me as odd that certain so-called feminists hate certain women more than any male so-called misogynists, it makes you wonder who the real misogynists are.

I never trust feminist statistics though, just unreliable propaganda in my experience, feel free to explan how women do more than twice as much work as men, and how anyone would know how much work nearly 7 billion people do.

Also, I'm glad to hear the OP has seen the error of her ways.

Programmes like TOWIE glamourise all that is superficial. Supposedly not very bright women dolling themselves up and being used by the fellas on the programme. Then there are girls watching thinking "Well if I look good and play dumb I can make a few quid."
At least the Twins don't play up to the stereotypes their jobs go hand in hand with.

The stats are from the Global Poverty Project - an excellent organisation that carries out global research.

To be honest, Sam, I wasn't always a feminist. I never gave it much thought, as being born in the West, we women have strong opportunities compared to our forebears and our sisters worldwide.

But then I volunteered in SE Asia for some years, as a teacher, and what I saw there - women working in paddy fields with babies strapped to their backs, working over a hot stove in a street cafe, collecting rubbish off the roads...while untold numbers of men drank beer or green tea and watched TV all day.

I didn't go out there as a feminist, but I came back as one!!!

TBH whilst I don't think they are to bad as HM's I still can't 100% support them as I don't agree with what job they do/did

That's a great story Cadhla. More women should be able to have experiences that help them value themselves and other women more.

:) Thanks Bex, and you are right. If I hadn't seen just how vital these women were to their economy, their country, yet getting NO thanks or recognition for it, I might well have continued to sleepwalk through life with no regard for the struggles women have gone through and continue to go through, just to have the rights that are due to us as humans.

If anyone believes that women should have equal rights and opportunities to men, then they are a feminist.

My view of being a feminist is about women being free to choose.

If K&K choose to be Playmates then good on them. They seem pretty in control to me so are actually good examples of feminism.

Cool, !'m glad to hear you're not one of these feminists who seem to think women don't have good opportunties in this country, what you say about SE Asia doesn't sound good - for women at least!

Personally I careabout both men and women, so I think people should be interested in human rights, rather than just feminism, or masculism.

I'm for all human rights and feminism is a human rights issue in my opinion. As the majority of sexism is against women I'm pretty passionate about it as a human right. I am very anti racism and anti disability prejudice.

:) I hear ya!! I suppose as a woman, and having seen the injustice with my own eyes, and then trying to learn about the poverty women in particular face, I am proud to claim that I am a feminist! I also have a daughter, and I want a better, fairer world for her.
