I've only just found this thread, but I really like Jamie and Ben :o I've become completely hooked, never watched it before but my flatmate got me into it and I never miss it now, I even cheekily downloaded the next one as I couldn't wait until Sunday- It's a good un (although the task is next to impossible!)
Welcome along Cestrian18......got you hooked eh? :D

It'd be pretty boring in here if we all liked the same ones ;)

Phew- been a busy week so just caught up with the episodes and this thread!!, so apologies whilst I comment on previous posts (I don't know how to do multiple quotes- )

So here goes and in no particular order:

Glad Sarah went - it seemed like she was given compassionate leave to visit her family and then they brought her back.

Was sorry to see Colin go, I didn't think he would win it but I liked him.
Brent in elimination - again! He could win it tho- wasn't Julie in loads of eliminations too in her season?

I too enjoyed going through the credits but I would say 'tick' for the ones still in and 'cross' for the ones gone.

Amy in the immunity challeng- wtf?!!!! She deserved to have lose that - totally wasted her time.

Has anyone else noticed that Kylie Kwong is very 'pointy' with her fingers?! She points like every 5 seconds!!

    Enjoyed the street market challenge.

Emilia definitely deserved to be humbled in that dessert challenge, she really should have nailed it given her crown and composure under pressure.

Tracy or Brent to win for me ( they probably won't now!)

Also my teenage son has got into this season, we rant allowed to watch it without him now! He keeps shushing me whenever I say something whilst it's on!!

Yes!!! And it comes across to me as quite contrived, as if she's trying to find her 'thing' or USP, like George's 'boom boom shake the room' or Gary's 'what I do like ...'. I don't mind her though and definitely prefer her to Matt Moran. At least she tries to help. He always seemed to undermine them.

I can only remember Ben because he's the one who's always strategizing. There's always a piece to camera from him discussing the possible consequences of any action, his own and everybody else's. Perhaps if he put as much thought into what he cooks I might be able to remember a single dish he's put up.

Only way I remember Ben is the crazy eyes in those little camera pieces

I agree Matt just used to suck the confidence from them and always towards the end when they were really under pressure. He was not a good mentor and I thought he was quite boring as well.

At least so far this season Georgie Hasn't had to use the ' you better push or you'll be in the kakha!(sp?!) - I've decided to translate that as Greek for sh!t!!! :D

Sad to see Renae go but she held it together well though.

She had a good run and was a very worthy competitor.

Wish her all the luck in the world in her future culinary pursuits

Well said. It looks as if she was putting her experience to good use when the show was made at least, so long may she continue.

Interesting to hear more from Ben (I remembered!!!) than we have before and it turns out that he has as high an opinion of himself as Jamie has, he's just better at disguising it, presumably because he's had more practice, being older. I'm still not convinced it's warranted in either case.

Can't pick a winner, not that I ever can. And, btw, thanks to those who know for not doing that dropping little hints thing that people sometimes do. Much appreciated.

Happy to see Heston back. I should think most of this lot will take him in their stride.

Really don't like either of them and Ben is the only contestant I can recall, ever having his card marked for being a radar dodger.

He used to openly admit to doing it and aimed for the middle-ground every week.

What a piss-poor competitor and the only time we saw him come alive was during the food auction. Even then it wasn't about getting the stuff he wanted - it was more about knobbling the others so they didn't.

Me neither..........consistency seems to be a real issue this year.

I'd be happy for Tracy or Brent to win and I know Brent's been in loads of elimination challenges but so was Julie Goodwin the first series and it certainly never did her any harm ;)

Also, what we shouldn't forget is that it's another opportunity to cook so valuable (although stressful too) for that reason.
Happy to see Heston back. I should think most of this lot will take him in their stride.
    Me too.............LOVE Heston

    Self-taught culinary genius.

I'm sorry to see Renae go too. She's one of my favourites.

Porntash and Machiavelli man still in. Grrrr.

I appreciate that not everyone emotes, or is effusive and demonstrative but Ben just doesn't seem as though this matters as much to him as we know it does to others.

He's also not that good a cook so I'll be really disappointed if he wins.

Will echo the sentiments about Renae, although I did roll my eyes when she had an eel-based meltdown, she's been a solid competitor, as that little montage of her best bits proved

Brent for the win for me - given that he's been portrayed as an all Aussie man (like Andy season 4?) his attention to detail is deceptive and his plating can be beeeee-you-di-full

How the hell any of them made sense of Matt Preston's flowery language is beyond me!

Nice to see Georgie's vespa outside the building again from last week, it's been missed :D

Looking forward to Heston week, I always come away with a few hints and tips after watching him (those scrambled eggs are sublime!)

I only realised how much I've learnt from MCA when I had a chat with colleagues the other night and not one knew what a croquembouche was!

I absolutely can't bear to watch any other MC series now, I find them such poor imitations, would rather watch re-runs of past MCA series

Ooh, I didn't know that was his Vespa! :D How cool is that?

I still love the UK version but really love MCA too.

The main reason why it's so good, IMO, is because it's on a commercial channel so they have a massive budget. That means a huge larder, fantastic prizes, great challenges, a vast array of guest chefs and (previously) trips abroad.

Because ours is on the BBC, they're never going to do stuff like that which is a shame but ALL the winners (and some who didn't) have gone on to have solid careers in food which is essentially what it's all about really.

I quite like Jamie. I don't dislike Ben, but it's annoying me that he's still in it when much better cooks have gone. It feels like he's doing just what he needs to stay in, but nothing is ground breaking or inventive. I still don't get how he got into the top 3 the other episode - I thought Jamie's dish was much more highly received.

I think the winner will be one of Brent, Laura and Tracey. Personally, I'd love Brent to win as his food just looks so clever and beautiful.

For me, the beautiful thing about MCA is you have that journey with the contestants and you get to "know" them by the finals week - you have your favourites for sure, but I always find I'm just so happy with it that I don't care who wins because they've earned it.

I did rage a bit when Emma won though. I thought Lynton deserved it. He'd been consistently good throughout, where she hadn't really been on fire.

I won't comment on MCUK. Other than to say I loathe it. Awful format, awful judges, it's tired and dated.

Also - why is Gregg Wallace allowed to face Weight Watchers and still host, but lovely Michel can't face red potatoes and still host MCUKPro. Surely the argument could be made that Gregg will choose the one more healthy if against a more fattening one.

    Me too pac_girl!! :D

So were all of the contestants..................with the exception of Ben >:(

Brent's food always looks so amazing - so restaurant quality

No matter what happens next, I don't think he'll struggle to get into a pro kitchen.

I don't actually know that it's Georgie's vespa, I think in Season 4 we decided that it was and it stuck

Brent in a onesie :o He never fails to shock in so many ways ..... When he was talkingabout his sauce in the house kitchen, I could have sworn he said "confit of juniper" rather than "coffee and juniper" I think my version of it was better :p

Tracey has fallen from grace in the biggest possible way, she didn't have her game head on tonight for sure

I was looking forward to Emelia's jumping squid, but I didn't see it move at all. Love Ben's idea of Shiraz and Vegemite sauce, but surely that would go better with red meat? I might try it!

And finals week next week? Too soon!!!

    What a fab episode.

Brent in a onesie... Laura's sweet star struckness... Even porntash showed some lovely modesty in the morning cook. Have to say I felt for him with with sauce :( and Ben trying the fish looking like meat but being fish - might have failed but his Heston head was on. Both he and Porntash came across well today I thought.

Poor Tracy, with great heights comes great falls :(

And Heston. Just love watching him and we have a whole week... Yay. And totally agree Heston put some spark into the contestants...how happy were they! I think if Renae had been there she may have peed her pants, he must be so intimidating to cook for... Marco is one thing... Classic, Italian...Heston... Kudos to all of them.

No, but it's moving to Melbourne for six months from February. It will be $525 (£285) for a 10-course meal, not including drinks. People wanting to go had to enter a ballot.

Since it will be open during MCA filming, it will be surprising if there isn't a team challenge there in the next series.

Tracy! Back to the rabbit in the headlights under pressure. I can't see her going any further, she's seems to have lost all her confidence again. But then her journey has been a roller coaster of emotions ... Sorry

I don't get onesies. Unattractive and surely very, um, inconvenient is probably the best word. Especially at night. :o

Ben seems to have been timing his run but I wonder if he's peaking too soon. Nice to see a bit of animation from him but it didn't make me warm to him. Emelia looks increasingly out of her depth to me. But this lot's nothing if not unpredictable.

I'm glad they saved their budget for Marco and Heston. Both terrific mentors. I hope the massive improvement this year means a bigger budget next though, so they get an overseas trip.

I'm an episode behind. When they trailered Heston week at the end of Renae's elimination, I made a noise I think only dogs would hear. I LOVE him as a mentor on MCA.

It's interesting watching as we get towards the end, knowing who the winner is. I thought it would take away the fun of it, but it hasn't at all.

As I've said, I know the gender of the winner, just not the name - as the boy/girl ratio has been switching throughout the series, I've found myself re-evaluating what I think is going to happen, it's frustrating!

    I wish I didn't know even the little that I do :(

Really enjoyed last nights episode. Much as I don't like Jamie I was really sorry for him that he didn't have time to get the sauce on the plate. I think he would have won it if he had.

Tracy :o what a meltdown! From hero to zero in a week!!! Felt so sorry for her. But I think she was trying too hard, much like Emelia in that restaurant challenge with MPW.

Really looking forward to tonight's episode.

I'm actually enjoying seeing who is dipping, and who is peaking as we get closer to the end, and seeing how it fits in with who wins, if that makes sense? I have no idea who else finishes where in the order, so I still have that as the suprise aspect.

I'm confused by this. We quite often see contestants take up sauces and put them on the plate afterwards - Tracy (I think it was Tracy?) did exactly that in the same episode - so why couldn't Jamie have done that too? Do they have to stipulate before hand whether they are going to serve it at the judge's table in that way?
