Well do some work yourself first and make a point about him that others may agree or disagree with.

I like James as a broadcaster (it makes a refreshing respite from Nick Ferrari's occasionally bizarre right wing rhetoric) but I'm not sure why we need a thread for the sake of having a thread about him? He's not that widely known outside London is he?

There has been a lot of talk about him over on the LBC thread and I am not surprised it has overflowed onto a seperate strand.

Over on LBC Chit chat we are of mixed opinions. The jury is currently out, but half see him as a pompous, egotistical champagne socialist who causes them to switch off. The other half see him as a good and genuinely altruistic left wing commentator with a genius for spotting a gap in the news headlines of the day.

For non LBC Radio listeners: He hosts a current affairs phone-in programme on weekday mornings from 10:00am to 13:00, with appearances as a commentator on tv news shows from time to time.

My view? I no longer listen myself but I dislke what I see are the rather cheap shock jock techniques he launches on those callers of whom he either disagrees, or fail to pin down a reference to the nth degree in order to 'justify' an arguement. The old fool the listeners into entering an emotional arguement, but keeping it on a totally logical level where everything's black and white technique.

I also dislike the constant affirmations of his age, nuptial status and paternal duties, as if to ground himself as an average man of the world on the Clapham Omnibus type.

That's why I created this thread instead of annoying the lbc thread.

Bit late to worry about that.

And that's why I thought I'd back you up with an explanation when it looked like questions were being raised.

When he's on form, he has the ability to dissect a news story or a caller's argument and reveal the absurdity that underpins it. When he's not on form, he has the ability to turn what might be a mildly interesting story into a longwinded digression, like a Ronnie Corbett joke without the laughs or the charm.

He's maybe the nearest we have to an old-school, Brian Hayes-style forensic phone-in host - but definitely not in Hayes's league.

He makes a good follow-up after The Wright Stuff on C5 has finished.

I do and I am well outside London. Don't like Him as a presenter, though He is probably a very nice chap if you know Him :)

I think he's great, the best thing on LBC, which is otherwise a sensationalist station.
