Why Martin Scorsese allowed cockney pitbull Ray Winstone to be cast as a New York tough guy in The Departed is a complete mystery, not only is his accent shockingly bad he doesnt even look like he's from New York.
The film is actually set in Boston with the criminals being the Irish-American mobsters native to the area.
Which isn't to say Winstone isn't shocking, because he is.
Denzel Washington as Lincoln Rhyme in The Bone Collector - great actor but having read all the books always imagined him played by the late Philip Seymour Hoffman
Yes, that was strange casting, especially as Wagner had played Tracy's son in Broken Lance in 1954.
I remember a quote by some actress complaining that during her career she got to play a daughter, then a wife, and then a mother, and all against the same actor.
I still can't get over how Lindsay Lohan was cast as Liz Taylor in that awful biopic back in 2012. However the script of the film it's self was atrocious anyway.

"Michelangelo was apparently both a dwarf and a homosexual. He is played by Charlton Heston."
