Glandular fever

I have had glandular fever for almost two weeks now- it started off with flu like symptoms, and now my arm pits are sore and I feel exhausted. I'm petrified that this is going to turn into something much worse- I've heard nightmares about people being sick for months or years afterwards, or that it even turns into ME.
Are there any precautions I can take to stop it from turning into ME?

Although to be fair, if you can post on here you can't have it very bad
I had glandular fever back in the 70's, there's no way I could even read or watch TV, never mind type on a computer.
Once it's 'over' you then need to rebuild your strength, which took a few months in my case, but I've had no relapses or after effects from it at all.
What did your doctor give you for it?, there's no treatment, but in my case I was given Pethadine Hydrocholride as a pain killer - which I can seriously recommend
OP, get to your GP
The dumb doctor I had at the time diagnosed strep throat and even though I had suggested glandular fever, she poohpoohed the idea and prescribed ampicillin - as it then was.
Ampicillin reacts with glandular fever and gave me the most awful rash on legs and arms... to the extent that, even at rush hour tube capacity, no one would stand or sit near me once they caught sight of my arms. And it was summer so they were on display.
OP, make sure you get plenty of rest and don't push yourself on if you feel knackered. You'll get over it faster with less likelihood of a recurrence if you take your time getting well. Good luck.
You must must must have plenty of rest and do not over do even when you are starting to feel better. The smallest things will exhaust you. Eat small quantities and eat really well to build up your strength.
I wasn't anywhere near well enough to drink loads of water, for ten days I was only able to take occasional sips of water or Lucozade.
Another couple of days and the doctor was going to get me taken to hospital to be fed via a drip.
I lost 2.5 stone
But likewise, tired and weak afterwards, but nothing since.
BUT I know loads of people who have had glandular fever and recovered just fine. I think the most important thing is to ensure your doctor takes you seriously and to take adequate time off work. Unfortunately I was in a position where I was forced to work and also had lots of other stressful things going on in my life, which I am convinced contributed to this outcome.
I broke up with my ex last December and recently found out they had taken out loans under my name over the Internet, pocketed the cash and not paid any of it back. I'm now having a hell of a time trying to prove it wasn't me (we had a joint account at the time which the money was paid into first). I'm trying my hardest not to get wound up about it as in sure that stress is doing this fever no favours.
It wasn't all fat
I lost most of my muscle, and during the initial weeks of recovery was the only time my younger brother ever beat me at arm wrestling
I wasn't capable of it, a few sips a day was all I could manage, and nothing to eat at all - even going a few steps to the toilet was a lengthy process, taking over half an hour.
Probably the best description is 'super flu', it's like flu on steroids.
Rest, good diet, when a bit better try very gentle exercise (walking) and I found aspirin helped severe gland pain more than anything but you may not tolerate aspirin.
Most of all, it's going to take longer than you'll want to be well again but don't overdo it too soon.
Good luck.
You just have to cope through it.
About four weeks after I had been diagnosed with glandular fever, I returned to the GP as I didn't seem to be getting better as quickly as I had expected. What she told me was that it was important to eat a healthy diet (not something I'm very good at usually) and that I needed to sort of 'pace' myself on a day to day basis. She said that every morning I should think about how I was feeling that day and score it on a scale of 1 to 10. If I was feeling 8 or 9, I should try to take things a little easier and not try to do too much just because I was feeling OK. If I was feeling more like a 4 or 5, I should push myself a little and not just sit around resting (which was what I would have felt like doing). I have no idea why this system worked, but it genuinely seemed to balance things out and a couple of months later I was pretty much back to normal.
have you called the police?
Perhaps contact the local press too. It's the silly season, not much real news so you never know, your situation might hit the spot.
Check with CAB too - if you haven't. They might have a recommendation.
Op- I started with gf age 16, suffered for years, every sore throat I had turned into full blown tonsillitis and then if left untreated the gf would rear it's ugly head. It got to the point that as soon as I got a sore throat the dog gave me penicillin straight away. I did seem to grow out of it, every cold/bug I get hits my throat and I still. Et tonsillitis every now and again, but not had a gf flare up for about 5 years.
I note you've not said what your doctors advised? Are you sure it's gf? Or are you guessing?
Lo and behold, a few hours later the glands in my neck and right armpit started hurting and they still are 48 hours later. Most of the other symptoms are still there- periods of extreme tiredness, sore head and eyes, lack of appetite, raised temperature. Even feeding my dogs takes it out of me but I have to as I'm all alone for a week.
With regards to contactin the local press, I think they'd have a field day with this one, since he's in the country due to a marriage of convenience. I'm just worried what school would say as I'm a teacher and don't think parents would take to kindly to news about a gay teacher.
Thank you so much for ur concern guys x
My temp is constantly high, I'm knackered and I cannot sleep. I'm drinking water constantly. I actually just want to go home now so I can sleep properly. I'm getting four doses of anti-biotics but not sure it's working
