I always thought "All These Things That I've Done" by The Killers bore startling similarities to the Ninth Doctor's story. To this day I still listen to it and consider it Nine's anthem.

"Another Love" by Tom Odell is a very good match for The Doctor's feelings for Martha, as well.

I have always thought, from the very first introduction of River, that when he created her, Moffat was inspired by "Crazy Love" by Van Morrison;-

I can hear her heart beating for a thousand miles
And the heavens open every time she smiles
When I come to her that's where I belong
I'm running to her like a river's song.

She gives me love, love, love, love, crazy love
She gives me love, love, love, love, crazy love.

Note to Moff - perhaps when you eventually e-mail me about Sherlock's tea you can just tell me whether I'm right about the song?;):)

Has anyone heard Young and Beautiful by Lana Del Rey - the single from The Great Gatsby soundtrack.

It's a heartbreaking song when considering the film's story, and I feel as if it applies to the Doctor's and River's relationship so much

The 'Will you still love me when I'm no longer young and beautiful' constantly reminds me of what River said in The Angels Take Manhatten

Sara by Starship - Sarah Jane Smith

Marha's Harbour by All About Eve - Martha Jones

Donna by 10CC - Donna Noble or Donna Temple Noble as she'd be known as now

Possibly Doctor! Doctor! by Thompson Twins for Tennant's Doctor

Also, I think the lyrics to Enjoy the Silence by Depeche Mode is so relevent to The Impossible Astranaut and the Day of the Moon, plus the episode where Amy gives birth to Melody (later knows as River). A Good Man Goes to War?

And Amy by Elton John - Amy Pond (album only song from 1970s)

Obviously disposable 90s dance hit, 'Not Alone' by Olive for the Doctor and the Master as per Utopia. Chorus lyric: "You are not alone, I'll wait till the end of time".

Always think of The Doctor when I hear this...

Despite the threat of the gods I survive,
It's the promise of death that keeps me alive.
I prepare for the incoming storm,
Keeping each of my babes in safety and warm.
You see some people die when they die,
Yeah but me I come back harder still.
When they bury me under the hill,
Don't know if I'll return but I probably will.

    Hidden Doorways by Julian Cope

River's song while in Prison would be Counting Down the Days.

    I wanna travel through time
    See your surprise
    Hold you so tight
I'm counting down the days tonight
I just wanna be a million miles away from here
    I'm counting down the days

And for the Doctor in return...

And it don't seem long since my life was an endless stream
The future fled into time without trace
I see the end now but I've fallen in love again
With a girl who can travel in space.
