Is this the common theory...?
John Hurt's Doctor is actually 9 (and not the 0th). Which makes Eccleston 10, Tennant 11 and Smith 12. So in this theory, Hurt's 9 did something terrible and therefore, is not classed as a Doctor so we've 12 faces, but 11 Doctors.
Why did Clara only see 11 faces not 12? Because Hurt's 9 is not a Doctor, he was hidden from time.
The "fall of the Eleventh", (is the 11th Doctor not 11th face) could involve a great sacrifice by Tennant, allowing our current Doctor to escape unscathed.
