The 92 men's final was on BBC2 because it always aired on BBC2. Wimbledon was as much a BBC2 property as Top Gear was/is. BBC1 shared daytime coverage, but it was BBC2's baby, regardless of whether 10m tuned in for the final or not.

Why was it on BBC2 - did it clash with another major sporting event? This was Agassi's nail-biting five-set victory over Ivanišević. Agassi always a popular figure here. But yeah, brilliant for BBC2 even in those pre-digital days.

Yes, BBC1 was broadcasting the French Grand Prix at the same time.

Edit: Although Robbie does point out that Wimbledon was at that point always a BBC2 commitment. The previous year I don't think the Grand Prix was shown live, and highlights were aired after the Men's Final.

Yikes! We can forgive MPD falling below a million, but what an awful bunch of ratings all round. Trojan Donkey is first-run entertainment - 1.1% share! PhoneShop at least has the excuse that it was shown on E4 ages ago. And those shares for CD and DOND, long before Murray stepped on the court. Brendan and CDWM too, both new episodes!

Yes, but it was not just the amazing tennis figures but the fact that Summer had arrived for the first time in what seems like decades. I bet a lot of people have gone away for the weekend given the forecast.

Had the weather not been as it was the ratings above would have been a bit more like normal, Corrie about 6 million and the Tennis might have gone up to 11 million average/ 15 million peak.

Many ratings this weekend will be effected as people get a life for once. :)

That's it - Corrie's had enough chances. Should be axed immediately :D

Yes, less than 5 million viewers, time for it to go now. The bingo halls should be very busy on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays as this is the Corrie viewers favourite pastime( or so I've been told).:D

    CORRIE AXE FEARS.

Yes, it's clearly time now to pull the plug on Corrie based on these horrendous and unacceptable ratings. They'll probably move Monday's episodes to 22:35.
I liked it when Corrie was on after the Champions League football once upon a time.

I deliberately avoided commenting on Channel 4's poor volume figures due to the weather. The shares come into play here, as they really show up the missable programmes, which take a lower share of the dwindling bunch of people who are left in front of the TV than they do normally.

Agree about it feeling like the first bit of proper summer in decades! :) I heard that it would last three weeks...

Oh dear, twelve pages of posts to read through since 9pm last night!

One can only assume there's been lots of bitterness on the thread today. I guess the tennis rated well, and EastEnders sneaked past Coronation St.

Looks like I was fairly spot on...

Everything else did very poor on Channel 5

It actually ran 21:02-22:30. Under the circumstances that's not bad at all for BB! Will probably add a fair bit on +1 due to Murray.

Over on Channel 5, Gina and Dexter's fake eviction on Big Brother: Secrets & Lies earned 1.34m (6.1) from 9.15pm.

On BBC Two, The One Show attracted 1.03m (5.5%) at 7pm and Wild Shepherdess with Kate Humble had 1.20m (5.2%) at 9pm. QI took 1.66m (7.6%) from 10pm.

Ben Fogle's Harbour Lives continued with 2.4m (12.1%) on ITV at 8pm. Britain's Secret Homes had 1.7m (7.7%) at 9pm and movie Notting Hill, starring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts, was watched by 910k (9.3%) from 10.45pm.

Meanwhile, Channel 4's Four Rooms and The Million Pound Drop Live had 520k (2.4%) and 970k (4.4%) respectively from 8pm and Phoneshop amused 370k (2.4%) at 10.30pm.

    BB easily beats Davina's show.

    18:30 - Hollyoaks: 483k (3.0%)
    21:00 - The Million Pound Drop Live: 967k (4.6%)

Poor numbers all round. MPD respectable under the circumstances - it's not exactly an all-time low which was 272k (0.9%) against the Olympic Opening Ceremony.

Deal or No Deal, is that an all-time low? I don't think i've seen it that low before.

Due to the late slot, I think eastenders will do well to get 5million. A Corrie episode after an England match earlier this year got 5.6m. As ee is not as popular as Corrie, 5mill will be acceptable.
Well, E'dale was sub 4m at 10pm after World Cup matches when it was scheduled in that slot for a few weeks in 2006.

Not sure why people think its suck a big deal when BB beats MPD....?

MPD is a cheap gameshow while BB cost channel 5 a bomb...

MPD can afford to have smaller ratings then BB

Also, "Bit on the Side Pulverized Phoneshop"...

    One was a repeat ;)

Seems a bizarre thing to do. Then again, BBC Three is bizarre under Bennett.

Wouldn't call MPD a cheap gameshow. It was in the early days when nobody won but nowadays most teams seem to go away with £50k or so, so it must prize wise at least be one of the more expensive on a per hour basis.

Sadly though the damage has already been done by C4 airing too much, too soon. Think they really killed it with those Olympic and Paralympic specials - airing against the Olympics.

This was advertised as a new series by CH4 and TV mags, yet it was the last series on E4 which was 2011!! When is the new series coming on?

btw - Family Guy - 28th July is the new series....I know there is "T in the Park", but this is a tad late. We're looking at December before the series finishes, putting us nearly A YEAR behind the US.
