What if it's actually John Smith? I'd like that.

I'd like to think it is Emerys due to the whole "magic" and mystery thing. Last year caught a 1980s episode with 7 and Ace. Involved Arthur ,Morgana etc. 7 was even refered to as "Merlin". Emerys was his other name in the BBC show so why not ?.

Most Time Lord names that aren't titles seem to be three syllables (Borusa, Rassilon, Romana, Omega). Or, at least, shortened to three syllables, in Romana's case (Romanadvoratrelundar).

So I assume it would be along those lines :D

Battlefield has DEFINATELY got to be my all-time favourite Seventh Doctor story.

It has a lot of great action in it. Plus there is the right amount of suspence. The cliffhangers are perfect. Plus the casting is excellent.

Angela Bruce is brilliant as Lethridge Stewart's replacement, Winifred Bambera. Jean Marsh makes a chilling, quite convincing villain. We even get Angela Douglas from the Carry On films as Alistair's second Wife, Doris.

I think Sophie Aldred is on top form here, too. I love the scene between her and the Chinese woman, when Ace talks about blowing up things with Nitro-9 cans.

Saying that, I would put Battlefield in my top 5 list of the best classic stories.

I must've watched Battlefield half a dozen times, if not more, since the story was released on DVD in late 2008.

I've just found this trailer for the story on YouTube. It has been put together well:

It offers a bit of a glimpse into what happens in the story, if there are some fans of the show, who don't have this on DVD.

That's quite possibly one of the worst scenes in Doctor Who ever. I'm always amazed that the guy who wrote the amazing Remembrance was the same bloke who wrote the awful Battlefield.

And the less said about McCoy and that scabbard, the better.

Anyway, back on topic. The Doc's name. I have a few suggestions...

    Andy Riley
    Desmond Coyle
    George Byrne
    David Nicholson
    Declan Lynch
    Ken Sweeney
    Neil Hannon
    Keith Cullen
    Ciaran Donnelly
    Mick McEvoy
    Jack White
    Henry Bigbigging
    Hank Tree
    Hiroshima Twinkie
    Stig Bubblecard
    Johnny Hellzapoppin’
    Luke Duke
    Billy Ferry
    Chewy Louie
    John Hoop
    Hairycake Linehan
    Rebulah Conundrum
    Peewee Stairmaster
    Jemima Racktool
    Jerry Twig
    Spodo Komodo
    Cannabranna Lammer
    Todd Unctious

I sometimes wonder if some of those names aren't titles or appellations from other cultures in the universe that were chosen in pretty much the same way as the Doctor and the Master chose theirs. If not, then I also suspect it's something three syllables and like other sorts of alien names you'd get in 1960s and 70s sci-fi...
