It lacks the big fanfare at the start which some people don't like, it has a strong base line, some orchestrated elements, some synthesised elements and most importantly it isn't lacking the "Middle 8" part of the theme (starts 32 seconds in)

Even this version would've been better than what we had last night:
The new theme tune is now on You Tube if you want to play it over & over again? ;-) Interestingly and something I missed last night but elements of the 'fanfare' are still evident...

The new theme, visually and aurally stank worse than a sack full of broken sphincters. Its like someone trying to play the theme on an enraged cat whilst puking watch parts. Whoever created and okayed this should have the decency to look for a new line of work more suited to then, like begging for spare change for a cup of tea
I like the inclusion of the bells at the beginning and clockwork but the violin parts are just awful. Or at least it sounds like an out of tune violin to my untrained ears.
I also hate how the credits don't scroll up anymore, but that's just a petty complaint.
Have to agree with the Op. I liked the episode but those opening credits are awful. If I was just judging the show on the titles alone I would think it was some cheap low budget tat. Feels wrong not to have the vortex anymore. RTD era titles were way better than any since but at least the matt smith era one's were still similar. These new one's are an embarrassment.
That being said, as long as the episodes are good, I can live with naff titles.
Why Steven Moffatt couldn't have kept the same titles from last year, with Matt's face taken out and Peter's face put in, I don't know. That has to be one of the best versions of the theme, IMO.

I personally think last year's titles were as cheap as you could get. This year's do look a little bit amateurish, but last year's were even worse.
Some parts of this piss-take video actually look better than the 2013 titles, IMO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1fYVyqTlTE

Yes, I loved that one! I've always really liked the fanfare at the start too, which has now been ditched.
What annoys me is that 'someone', an anonymous 'someone', gave this new music the thumbs up. Well I want to know WHY and WHO they WERE. Would Moffat have had the final say in it?
I really like the new title sequence and love the new theme. I'm so glad they've moved on from having an overblown bombastic orchestral theme, as i never felt like this suited the show. There's still orchestral elements, but it's much more electronic than any other New Who theme, and I approve of that.

Agreed 100%
The new theme reminds me of the DW-Confidential theme, it is the DW theme but it isnt if you get me. And for God sakes bring back the middle eight, it needs it!
I'm glad they got rid of the previous one, not that I hated it but it had run its course. I don't think there will be one to surpass the 2008-2010 one, the themes seem to have been dumbed down since.
I hated the new theme. Just what were they thinking? If capaldi's doctor is supposed to be a more darker version, of the time lord, then surely it deserved a theme,to mirror his persona? And what coud be more fitting than the Murray Gold's, Amazing orchestral theme, which, would always send a slight tingle down my spine, whenever I herd it.Last nights grand ( supposedly) opening, left me feeling dumbstruck! From Class to crass!..>:(
Murray Gold's theme is NOT dark though, it is just bolder and heavy on orchestral sounds. If anything, this is overkill and detracts from the darkness. The new theme introduces more eerieness through the choice of instruments, which manages to capture more of the darker undertones.

It has a nice mix of orchestra and synthesised music. And I really like the warbly-whistly noises at the start which are from the 1967-1979 theme tune.
I haven't complained about any of the nuwho issues, I'm always glad to see any new episodes rather than none at all but the new theme tune is dreadful, really, really bad. Sounds like nails on a blackboard and I agree with an earlier post on this thread that it lacked oomph and drama. Please get rid of it asap!!!!

One of the comments is that it "sounds like a choir of chipmunks" I'll never get that image out of my head now.

Hehe that's a funny one..I will be rewatching later, think it will pop up to tickle the funny bone!
The new titles did seem a bit busy..watch cogs or whatever..I did like the kind of drum overlay on the theme..boom..boom...etc. Woohoo...
I realise the above could be described more effectively by a five
year old..

However, I do prefer last year's music.

It was the audio equivalent of a shrug accompanied by a "meh".
It was a dogs dinner that reminded me of that other dogs dinner of the 1986 (Trial season) theme music.
I'll give the titles another watch before I decide about the visuals. But the music straight from the off...awful.

He comes across as such a nice guy, who feels privileged to have been given the opporutnity.
Not like that other egotist who I won't even name.

I actually think the Day of the Doctor Closing Credits theme surpassed the 2008-2010 one. Pity it was only used once:
