Was anyone else a big fan? Who was your favourite of his characters or which bit of the show did you particular like, etc?

My mum was. I'm too young to remember it properly, but she liked Steve Wright, Dave Lee Travis etc and always had Radio One on in the car.

Yes, OP - when teeny-ish, I enjoyed the Radio One original. However... one of my neighbours is a fan of the twenty-first century version of the 'Big Show', which appears to involve SW singing acapella for up to twenty minutes at a time. My poor ears.

I will admit to being a fan. I loved the Total Recall spoof sketches - Total Respray, Total Remix, Total Reheat etc.

Some of those silly recordings of people laughing, that he used to play, used to crack me up.

Listen to his Radio 2 shows.

They're essentially the same as his ones from Radio 1 - right down to the music played.

I've actually asumed for some time that they're just repeats...

Not really as he doesn't have all the comedy characters he used to have.

On Radio 2 all it seems to be now is a bunch of fawning lickspittles on his 'team' who pander to him to make him sound amusing. It's all about him now.

And that's why I stopped listening.

I always listened to Steve Wright when he was on Radio 1, my favourite character was Damian the Radio 1 social worker.

Can't listen to the show he does now on Radio 2 - no comparison

Agreed.........and the 'old woman' :'I'm bad..........you're worse, catch yourself on.......etc' from Northern Ireland was my favourite.

I'm too young to remember the Radio 1 show, so I actually don't mind the Radio 2 one. Ask Elvis is amusing.

That was the same woman who used to say, 'Thankyou, doctor' and 'Get some therapy'. I thought she was actually supposed to be a cleaner at the studios.

A few weeks ago Bruno Tonioli from Strictly was in the studio the same day as the Old Woman was there. They came in from playing a record with much laughter and hilarity that stopped abruptly when Bruno mentioned Steve Wrights Mum had just liked something he did :D

Bluster a'plenty in the studio and a definate drop in atmosphere.
