I still think MS are wrong saying its a fake key. However, if you can get to deal with the UK piracy department in MS you might get some sensible support rather than being messed about by their Helpdesk in the Philippines.
Still nothing via email, might just post it to them with a covering letter
Do not send it in the post.
To repeat my earlier advice, I'd try ringing MS Support again first and start from scratch. Your copy cannot be fake as it has been activated before and was bought from a legitimate source.
If that fails, try the MS Piracy route. You will be put in touch with UK staff who might deal with it.
If that doesn't work, PM me and I will see what I can do.
Just filled in there online piracy form, they want me to send the lot to an address in Ireland along with -
Please be sure to include:
This form The counterfeit Office CD or DVD you purchased or received with your computer along with any additional software packaging The 5x5 product key, if this was requested when submitting your counterfeit report The original purchase receipt of the software or computer, including the date of purchase and the name and address of the seller
The only issue is I can no longer find the receipt, it was purchased over 4 years ago, should I just say I no longer have a receipt and keep my fingers crossed ?

If you can say roughly where and when you purchased it, that should be enough. I'm hoping they will realise it's not a pirate copy and help you activate it!
I know many people are against the new office 365 role model but look at the deal for £79.99.per annum:
For 5 PCs or Macs plus 5 tablets, including iPad, Android, or Windows
1TB online storage and 60 minutes of Skype calls per month per user for up to 5 users
Premium subscription with free technical support and product updates
The above is 1 TB per user (i.e. only £16 per head for five users (you could easily set up 5 login accounts for only one person).
In fact, I believe they now offer unlimited "Cloud" storage (quite how unlimited "unlimited" is remains to be seen based on the meaning of "unlimited" when applied to mobile phones).
No other cloud storage deal comes remotely close. I understand the server download is not so fast that using it as a "virtual" drive is really that practical, but you can store zillions of photos etc - you are not restricted to office stuff (Storing large files is still a challenge unless you have a very fast broadband upload).
It is almost worth leasing 365 for the cloud space alone - no other major cloud system comes even close, let alone include a permanently supported office package (google could has some capability but is a toy by comparison)
Actually, if you buy a LINX 8 tablet (£89.99) they offer the first year as a personal subscription (I user option) in the price, but for an additional £7.99 you can upgrade to the 5 user home edition (they may have closed this but even the 1 user deal is pretty good as normally £59.99 per annum, but free for first year).
So I sent it all back to Microsoft Ireland and a week later I get this back from them in an email
Your counterfeit report submission has been reviewed and accepted. A complimentary software replacement kit will be shipped to the address you provided when submitting your counterfeit report. Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery of your complimentary software kit.
So my question is why was my software deemed to be fake and why have I had to do all this chasing around and be without software for the best part of a month (so far) through no fault of my own ?

It could be a number of things. The 2 most likely IMO are that a range of product keys that included yours may have been incorporated into a keygen or there was some other dodgyness going on with regards to the original supplier that has only recently been uncovered. It obviously doesn't help that the retailer is no longer around either.
On the plus side its sorted now and you might find they provide you an upgrade to 2013 since 2010 is no longer available for purchase.

Microsoft won't comment any further on piracy, so I doubt you will get an explanation.
I still think they are in error as its highly unlikely that fake software would end up in PC World. However, at least you will get new software out of it!
BTW MS made me jump through some hoops today, too. I was moving an Office 2007 from my old laptop to a new one. I retrieved the product key, downloaded install files from MS, but when I started it, the setup window was too small to enter the key, that part was cut off. Googling returned nothing, I tried various compatibility modes nothing. What helped was a checkbox in the Compatibility tab, something about display scaling on high DPI settings. So if you did not know yet, size does matter

What exactly happens when you try to activate?
