I put sometimes as I have killed them before, but I'm usually too scared to get near enough to even do that. Most of the time I either get someone else to take it away or leave it be.

I don't mind the thin daddy long legs ones as long as they're not in my bedroom. There's one that's always in the bathroom who just gets on with it and chills in the cupboard. However the big fat ones must be eliminated immediately.

I did actually get rid of one myself using a cup not long ago, which made me feel all independent.

If I don't squash them - the thought of them crawling over me at night is just ewwwww- then Keith the cat is very highly trained at seeking any out and bashing them into a ball before swallowing them - I do provide Felix for him so he's not killing them for food just honing his hunting skills and saving his owner from night time crawlies.

I voted yes by the way - for me and Keith

Yes - they've broken into my house. They'd have a right little kick off if I broke into theirs.

Keith is a superb name for a pet. I'm in awe.

I like to pick them up and look closely at them for a while, they seem to enjoy the warmth of my hand too.

I had one and his web on my plant in the bathroom this winter and moved him and his home through to living room where it was warmer. :)

Not seen another one for months now.

Do you kill spiders? I don't. I think they benefit me by killing fies and other nasty bugs. I am not over fond of then though and do clear webs from time to time.

Please vote in my Poll if you'd like. :)

Sometimes, especially the big ones and the ones in my room.

I usually catch them in a bit of tissue, and flush them down the toilet.

I tell the spiders in my house that we have an agreement.. as long as they don't come near me, I leave them alone. :D Once they decide to get too close or (god forbid) touch me, the deal is off.

We have a spider in our electric meter cupboard, and one lurking behind the toilet, but I leave them to do what they need to do. The daddy long leg types don't bother me, but those creepy suckers with the thick legs.. <shudder>.

A couple of months after we moved into our place, I found a spider in our bathroom one night, it was flippin' massive. :o Swear to god, it could have passed as a tarantula if it had been hairier. I backed away and went to wake my husband up. His reply initially on getting woken up to catch a spider was 'yeah yeah <eyeroll>'. He changed his tune pretty quick when he saw it though. :D Apparently it was just a garden spider but it must have had a stash of weetabix under the tub or something.

So all of you voted "yes", then?

In general, house spiders won't survive outside. The clue is in the name. Unless they manage to get back in, of course.

I never kill, and I never evict. There is something rather disconcerting about a large spider running across the floor in search of a mate, admittedly - but it will soon scuttle out of the way. And think of all the bugs it must be eating.

From The British Arachnological Society -

Some things you can do if you do have a 'spider problem' include:
Carefully sweep up the spider and put it outside, or better still put in an outside shed, garage or similar place as the 'outside' is not their habitat and it is a bit cruel. They can eventually find their way back inside.
If one gets trapped in the bath or sink put a towel on the edge of the bath or sink so the spider can climb out. They do not come up through the drain hole that is a 'P-trap' with a water seal in the elbow. What happens is that they are out and about hunting at night and either slip into the bath or are attracted to a drop of water in it and slide down. The poor spider cannot then climb up the slippery sides of the bath and so are trapped. It is a good idea to leave a towel over the edge of the bath at night even if a spider is not in it just in case one should fall in.
Finally, rather than trying to rid your house of these fascinating creatures live with them and enjoy them!

There is no mention of them dying, only of it being 'a bit cruel'. So again, NO, I don't kill spiders.

Keith has a sister named Beryl - she alas is only interested in shrews and has never altered me to arachnids, unless she kills them under the radar or lets Keith take all the credit............

The ones that turn up in the bath go on an adventure down the plughole. My dog likes stamping on spiders, he also tries to chase flies that come in through open doors and windows around the house, but they're too quick for him. :D

I don't mind catching moths and releasing them outside, it's not their fault they're drug addicts for light bulbs. :p

A spider is very lucky to escape with it's life once I've spotted it.

Rarely. If they're in a spot that I can sense them and they're disturbing me, i'll destroy their webbing and move them on. I'm not sure why I've killed a spider in the past though.

If it's one of those big ones that suddenly runs across the floor (seems to only happen in autumn) and I'm wearing slippers or shoes then yes. They deserve it for startling me. >:(

Otherwise no, I leave 'em alone. I've never taken one outside.

    So "sometimes".

I used to just ignore them, except the very largest ones which got escorted off the premises if they were in my eyeline.
But since I got my cat I tend to remove them for their own safety - she catches and eats them like Keith does above. She eats flies too - but she's welcome to kill them;-)

Yes and Sometimes people are the scourge of the human race. There is absolutely no reason to justify killing one.

    why do you do it?

Personally I've got no other way to get rid of them, and when I see them my heart races so badly that I think I'm about to peg out. It's a phobia. I don't like killing them either but getting closer to the larger ones than the long hoover attachment allows is impossible.

Accidentally, if anything. I try my best to move them to a less inconvenient location, but sometimes accidental deaths occur.
