Misao Okawa said that sushi and sleep are the reasons why she has lived so long. I suspect the sleep had more to do with her living longer than sushi did. I'm assuming she meant that she had great sleeps every night.

It would be great if she carried on getting older and older. I am wondering how old someone can be before their body/heart just gives up.

It's amazing to think that some people born 1998, who'd be 17 this year, will still be alive when we hit the 22nd century.

They would have to reach 100, still quite a goal even today. Although people born this year are far more likely to see it.

It depends if they make good improvements in health care, it might not happen, i.e. like the flying cars, they say we will be this and that in 50 years, but in reality we hardly moved forward in many aspects of life.

Last time I checked there were only five people left born before 1900.

This guy claimed to have been born in 1677. He died in 1933 aged 256.

This woman is the officially oldest ever person at 122.

But she outlived both her daughter and grandson by several decades. Not really sure I would want to live that long.

Wasnt there a case of a woman in japan claimed to be 115 but it was a scam. The family were drawing her pension by claiming she was alive. She had been dead for 2 decades

    Yes that is true.

The oldest person in the world used to be cited as a Japanese man. However that seems to have erased from the records.

Tokyo's 'oldest man' had been dead for 30 yearsBirthday cake, Officials had planned a birthday celebration to honour Mr Kato but they found him dead
He was thought to be the oldest man in Tokyo - but when officials went to congratulate Sogen Kato on his 111th birthday, they uncovered mummified skeletal remains lying in his bed.

Mr Kato may have been dead for 30 years according to Japanese authorities.

There was a follow up report where it was revealed the Japanese authorities thought thousands of people who were thought to be alive were dead.

I think you have to take a lot of the claims with a pinch of salt.

At one time people ignored all the claim coming out of China because so many were made up by the government

There was some African dude who claimed he was 140 or something and he tried to prove it by telling accounts of what happened during his lifetime, expecting everyone to just believe him and not that he could have just read up on those events :D

Yes but this man was verified by the Guinness Book of Records for many years.

    He was Shigechiyo Izumi

I heard doubts expressed about him many years ago. The same source expressed doubts about Madame Calment too.

Wasn't there also a Russian monk who claimed to be like 700 years old?
