Labour's Emily Thornberry has caused a stir this afternoon:

I think Labour are losing the plot. That's what happens when the ship you're sailing in has no rudder.

So you're no longer allowed to tweet a picture of a house with an England flag? ITS PC GON MAADDD >:(>:(>:(

Happens all the time when I vote here. Usually it's the Green party who ask for mine. I don't think I've ever walked into the polling station here and not been asked for it.

Yeah way to miss my point. I don't mind being asked for my polling number, I just don't like being asked in a forceful manner or being told 'you have to give it to me' and I don't appreciate him blocking other activists from having it either and then when I give it to the other activists having something said under his breath.

I think Labour are losing the plot. That's what happens when the ship you're sailing in has no rudder.

Fellow MP, Simon Danczuk, seems to have the measure of Ms Thornberry:

Simon Danczuk said: ‘Everyone will know exactly what she meant by that comment.

‘I think she was being derogatory and dismissive of the people. We all know what she was trying to imply.

‘I’ve talked about this previously. It’s like the Labour party has been hijacked by the north London liberal elite and it’s comments like that which reinforce that view.

He added: ‘I want to see more people flying the British flag.’

Ms Thornberry, a former barrister who lives in a £3million home in north London, was accused of looking down on Labour’s traditional voters.

Although the article is anti-UKIP, it does give a good realistic view of the reality of immigration in Rochester in Strood. I've checked their figures and they are accurate.

To the contrary, things could get very interesting indeed in May next year if the next parliament contains 20 SNP MPs, a dozen UKIP MPs and a handful of Green MPs all at the expense of both the Labour and Conservative parties.
You're assuming that 'a dozen' UKIP MPs will have any influence.
They're not going to get a coalition agreement, they're just going to be marginals.

if there's a minority government they'll do what they do - go to the country again. And the public will solidify back to old loyalties, edging out UKIP (who will have shown they don't make a difference).

Any other scenario includes unicorns and orcs.

What to do. Many years ago I came out of the polling station and was eagerly asked for my number. I said "One...." and watched as the guy wrote it down and awaited the next number. When he looked at me, I just told him that I was number 1 and that he was several thousand behind me in order of importance. Rarely have I seen such a look of embarrassment. I then called out the person running the station and pointed out that the party people in the foyer and outside the door should not be approaching people since they were wearing party rosettes. I also reported the likely winning candidate for wearing a rosette as he escorted an old lady across the road to the polling station.

Funny thing was, I hadn't gone there to vote but to take a disabled neighbour.

So did you report it to the polling staff ? They could have sorted it out there and then or got the police along to do it.

Emily Thornberry has now apologised for her 'white van, England flags' twitpic posted earlier today - but only after Ed Miliband had some words with her I suspect:

18.30: Emily Thornberry has apologised for appearing to ridicule a house with St George's Flags hanging.

"I apologise for any offence caused by the 3 flag picture. People should fly the England flag with pride!" she twitters. But she tells the Guardian that HER own borough is the victim of snobbery. "I suspect that those kind of people are trying to promote a somewhat prejudiced attitude towards Islington."

She has been slapped down by Ed Miliband.

A Labour source said Mr Miliband had spoken to his Islington neighbour. "It is fair to say he made his view very clear that people should fly the England flag with pride."

Odds rapidly shortening on UKIP to win 45-50% of the vote, was 2/1 with skybet this morning 5/4 now, looks as if UKIP are set to win 47.5% ish.

UKIP to win less than 40% of the vote is at 1000/1 with betfair now so looking a cert they'll hit at the very least mid 41/42%.

Must be a culture shock for Emily. Bet they don't even have a latte making machine or a copy of the Guardian inside that house!

Labour are apparently claiming to not understand what is wrong with her tweet...which I think shows just how out of touch/contemptious they are of their working class base. It is lucky for them that they actually can take that vote for granted.

    No they cannot.;-)

And you are making me feel hungry for old fashioned sweeties now. Think I might go to the shop to get some for my all-night session tonight. :D

Michael Gove posted earlier that he is so confident of a Conservative win tonight, that he has put a £50 bet on it. And that he wants to wipe the smug smile off the bookie's face when he goes to the betting shop to collect his winnings later ha ha. :D

Dave made 5 visits there to seat he "would throw kitchen sink to save " such a,shame he won't be there tonight , but then again after he closed Newark general hospital he didn't go anywhere near there after , so probably not surprising then ;-)

Really haha? when did he put it on? I've seen the conservatives as much as 100/1 so he could have some decent winnings!

If he was that confident, he'd have bet a lot more than 50 quid and if Cons did win, I'd want an investigation into the polling.
