Nirvana - Come as you are/The Killing Joke - eighties
there are hundreds of songs that use sampling or have very similar melodies or riffs, usually they're up on whosampled.com
but Ave Maria is a really old song...

The Chiffons - He's So Fine
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MNXM67yFMI
I have a vague recollection that there was an attempt to sue George Harrison by the writers of "He's So Fine" as the similarity between the two songs were deemed too similar to be just a coincidence.
He was sued and lost.Ironically George admitted he did base My Sweet Lord on another song and not He's So Fine
It was based on the Edin Hawkins Singers song "Oh Happy Day"

Ace of Base - 'Don't Turn Around' & Lady Gaga - 'Alejandro'.
listening to the Ace track now. I can see the comparison.
Wasn't "Don't Turn Around" originally by Aswad?
Oasis' "Whatever" sounds like "How Sweet To Be an Idiot" by Neil Innes, quite amusing that Innes parodied The Beatles with The Rutles, and now this
It's that one line - "How sweet to be an idiot" which is melodically identical to "I'm free to be whatever I", the chord progression is the same too.

How Sweet To Be An Idiot:

IMO it sounds more similar to He's So Fine than it does to Oh Happy Day
Also Lady Gaga Alejandro and Madonna La Isla Bonita
Ever seen this before - a lady gaga/ace of base parody....

Beyonce used Schubert's melody (sounds like it), she didnt rip off Madonna
Yeah, there's definitely some heavy borrowing there or a massive coincidence. I'm inclined to think RedOne had a big hand in that seeing as the production is where the similarity is. Funny that Alejandro was originally 'Don't Call My Name', so I have a feeling the changed it because it made the similarities too obvious.
No clue, I've only ever heard the Ace of Base version?
I don't think 'Alejandro' really sounds that much like 'La Isla Bonita' at all tbh.
She probably set out to make her 'version' of it like she does quite a lot (Boys Boys Boys > Girls Girls Girls, The Fame > Fame, Just Dance > Let's Dance etc.) but beyond the fact they're both Latin-flavoured, there's not a whole lot to compare there.
Also, all but vocally the Bloodhound Gang's 'Bad Touch' is basically the Pet Shop Boys' 'In The Night' (aka 'The Clothes Show theme tune'). I suppose this is intentional and with blessing though, given that the single version of 'Bad Touch' contains remixes by Messrs Tennant & Lowe.
EDIT: Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fv53gKx0cyo&feature=player_embedded
and
Girls Aloud - Don't Want You Back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Dzq23lP8NU
The choruses are completely identical
However, those singles were absolutely phenomenal, to be fair.

Remember when I first heard 'Warning' on the radio and I thought "Bloody hell, that sounds very much like 'Picture Book' at the start".
