Trends and "fads" that took your childhood by storm

I often hear people complain about a load of social media-inspired crazes for weird and random new objects or acts of stupidity. But apart from the more connected world we all now live in, have times really hanged that much since you were in school?
When I was in primary school (all of 10-12 years ago now), the key trends I remember were: Pokemon stickers; gel pens (including a particular fixation on scented and sparkly varieties); and those wristbands that began with Lance Arsmtrong's yellow cancer awareness bracelets and saw anti-racism and "Make Poverty History" off-shoots. What else did people used to trade with friends, or feel left out and useless after begging their parents in vain to buy, even though all the shops in a 10-mile radius of their home were sold out?
