I know someone who has it, not a nice thing to have and can be quite serious, it is hard to diagnose and can cause organ damage and sometimes it can be fatal.
Without Googling I know that it is fairly complicated condition that can be exacerbated by exposure to sunlight and is mostly found in women. It used to be fatal, but I think that it can be managed with meds now.
I only know that much because some peripheral character in a book I was reading had it though, otherwise I think I would be completely without a clue. It's not hugely common is it?
I know enough. It's an auto-immune disease, often referred to as a mimicking disease, as its symptoms often mimic other things. I got tested for it in my teens, as I had one of the symptoms of it - a rash across my nose - as a precaution. They took 4 vials of the stuff. Thankfully, and as my doctor predicted, my rash was just eczema. But I did some swotting up before going for my blood test.
Other symptoms, as far as I remember (!), include joint pain and photosensitivity.
My sis in law has that.Hers is controlled by meds & she attends a Lupus clinic at our hosp. She is active but does complain of joint pain. She 'crashes' (her word) about every 18 months when her platelets dip seriously low.She comes out in horrific bruises if you so much as touch her with one finger. She has an emergency number for that and gets immediately admitted into hosp for 3 sessions of chemo and is back on track soon after.Hope that helps.
ETA, she has to avoid direct sunlight, but still holidays in sunny climes ok.

Someone had it on Holby City once.
Apart from that I know nothing.

It is a medical condition. A long term online friend of mine suffers from lupus but I do not really know what it involves.
Which bit? Did we pass the test?

Oh I remember her, that's awful. My mother's friend has it but I didn't know you can die from it.
