We're doing something a bit different this year and going on a Great Rail Journeys holiday to Switzerland. Having only been on cruises and seen the edges of countries it will be great to see inland.
I'm going on a Belgian brewery holiday for 10 days with friends. Also spending a couple of days in Amsterdam (not really keen on that bit) and a night or 2 in France. We'll be in the UK for 2 days to pick up the kids and have a meal at The Hand & Flowers, catch up with friends before flying back home.
I do lots of short breaks throughout the year, weekends in Portland, New York and San Francisco but will be broadening my horizons by going to a few more cities to see my footie team play away games.

funds are low so we are going to Pontins this year LOL.........Obviously I would love to go somewhere exotic but to me just getting away from work and stresses of life, anywhere is a good place so Pontins will do fine
Then it'll be serving its purpose. That's the important thing, getting that much needed change of scenery for a few days or more.
All over North by car then South by motorhome.
I'm in Rotorua today, Napier tomorrow via Taupo.
It rained all morning but is becoming fine so were off on a "Duck" WWII amphibian tour of 3 lakes at 1pm.
Skyping relatives?

Oh Tess, I almost teared up reading that... it's one of my dreams, well Russia on the Orient Express really But I love Switzerland so much, been there several times.
It will make such a massive change from the cruise.
I plan to go on a package guided tour around Canada and the USA one day.
Thats a lot to cover Oliver.
We did USA East to West with Great Rail Journeys over 21 days.
I likened it to a restaurant "taster" menu.
You sample a little bit of everything.
Canada we did by coach (British Columbia mostly) then switched to a cruise ship for Alaska.
(Package tour with Travelsphere - I can recommend them)
The latter trip has truly breathtaking scenery.
The former has "excitement" and iconic buildings and landmarks.

It's just that there is a particular one I plan to go on which starts in Toronto and ends in New York!
Comments
I've always wanted to tour the USA, that would be a dream come true.
More realistically would be The Lake District again
That sounds really good.

Hope in autumn to go to New Orleans for a few days and then get a streamboat up the Mississippi.

And you've only recently returned from India! I'd really like to see Sweden at some point.
But this year, I'd like to go to one of the Med islands, either in May/June or September. I'm thinking either Ibiza, Mallorca, or Crete.
