The point is - music is colourless. So there shouldn't be a music award show which is based on colour.
This one isn't. Maybe they should change the title, because it's misleading, but it's for "black music", not for "black people".
People like Duffy, Conor Maynard, Justin Timberlake, Amy Winehouse, Adele, Eminem, Alex Clare, Nelly Furtado, Tulisa, Christina Aguilera, etc. can be eligible for MOBO awards.
Although, the awards have turned into more of an "urban-pop" award show now. Even most of the black artists nominated aren't strictly doing music of black origin. I'd say Justin Bieber's latest album is more urban-leaning than Labrinth's latest album, for example.
Kerrang! maybe, but the NME have awarded the likes of Dizzie Rascal and Professor Green in recent times.
I'd like to see the MOBOs either scrapped altogether or rebranded as the Urban Music Awards. At the time of their inception even the Brit awards typically ignored urban music, so there was a strong argument for a separate award show (like the longstanding Soul Train awards). Things have moved on since then, thankfully.
Why do you want to see it scrapped or renamed? What is the difference between MOBOs and Latin Music Awards? I'm really interested to know the answer to this.

No they shouldn't. If people are too stupid to understand that the title in no way says or suggests that the music has to be from black people, then that is their problem. Let them continue to be ignorant. MOBOs shouldn't have to change because people are idiots and just want something to complain about.

I have often thought if we had an awards ceremony for music of white origin there would be a huge discrimination cry!
You may as well be asking why there's no White History Month
Look, in an ideal world, we wouldn't be segregating certain types of music to certain ethnic groups, and I'm white before anyone asks. But in the real world so-called "urban music" doesn't get celebrated much within the major award shows if the Brit Awards are anything to go by. In fact a lot of music genres have their own specialist awards shows: eg dance music, rock music, indie music etc, but no-one complains about them.
And I'd argue that the Brit Awards these days just try to give the bare minimum awards they can give out without upsetting too many people, and they ones they do hand out are very generic, I liked it a few years ago when they had awards for specific genres.

Co-sign again. Amen.
This discussion occurs EVERY year after the awards
Before and after usually, there's always someone making the same point or asking the same question.
