That's the problem she never been given the chance to show us what she can do her scenes have always been rather minimal and she always been a supporting character to other peoples stories, I find when she given the chance she can deliver.
I find she just as competent as Lauren and Lola.
Answering the door and laughing in a couple of background scenes is boring, she need her own first proper storyline that's not about Jay, Lauren or Max.
But she is given decent stuff, and she still doesn't perform. She always used to act childish, she grew up a bit, but she's still quite child like.
The link I gave is a perfect example of her "giggles and snorts" disappearing as soon as she gets anything half decent. The actress was also good throughout her storyline with Jay when Abi thought she might be pregnant, but the writing was absolute crap.
She was also good in the scenes where it was revealed everyone (Lola, Dexter) knew about Jay kissing another girl and kept it from her.
The actress is good at the serious stuff. Personally, I think she's consistently good, but I can understand why people may not like the innocent/childlike side of Abi.
Can you name me some of her "decent stuff", please? The storylines I mentioned above is not decent stuff. There was a nice bit of character development in the episode I linked, the pregnancy storyline lasted a week and was written appallingly, and the betrayal scenes lasted, what, an episode or two?
That's not "decent stuff" at all - they're not even worthy to be called a "storyline" - they were so minimal.
Isn't she supposed to be only 18 though? I think they usually age too quickly in soaps. She's just a kid really.
I'm not expecting her to be all mature, but compared to the rest of the characters around her age she seems very childlike. She was always meant to be intelligent but that all went down the pan. It's like her brain cells rotted away when she went into sixth form. She regressed in mental age. I'm pretty certain she didn't used to giggle and snort as much.
The only thing going for her is that looks wise she's above average. But that's not going to be able to carry her forever.
I like Abi, not every female on the show has to fulfill the 'strong, feisty woman' prototype. The nervous laughter is realistic, she's 18 years old and constantly sidelined by her mental family, she's fairly immature and inexperienced but it fits in as part of her character and for that, the actress is doing a good job. The other teens might all have been alcoholics and parents before their 18th birthday but I think Abi is realistic for her age group, not every teenager is off the rails.
I have no idea why they had her fail her exams a million types as going off to uni and coming back a more confident woman with some life experiences that don't involve Max or Lauren would have been the best route to take her. Maybe she still might do it in Boston.
Yup this is the only way she will have leading material. Mind you with Jossa leaving for a bit it could be her time to be in the spotlight tbh. Id make her Lucy's killer and give her some great material.
I would think once she finishes with Jay and goes back to Bolton.. The writers are going to be downgrading her to a recurring character.. And only make occasional appearance.. A bit like big mo who is no longer fully contracted to the show..in a way it adds realism as young people do move away to uni.. Lorna Fitzgerald isn't a strong actress and has only been kept as she's grown up in the role.. Or if her appearances drop off they could recast in a few years
