Who do you think is good?

I was watching The Mummy 3 and thought Maria Bello was very sexy with her accent and brunette hair. Ok, it was a bit hit and miss at times but not too bad.

Could have passed for Billie Piper's better looking older sister (or yummy mummy) or a lower class Kate Beckinsale :D

A couple more I can remember are Natalie Portman, Scarlette Johannsen, Anne Hathaway and Eva Green. Although they all usually plump for the RP accent. Not sure Natalie Portman as a georgie lass would be a turn on or not :o

I also remember a bit of trivia about when Dervla Kirwan was in Goodnight Sweetheart playing a "cockney" and later in Ballykissangel didn't believe she was Irish.

I thought Renee Zellweger was excellent in the Bridget Jones films - both the accent and the body language.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Frances McDormand can pull off a British accent.

So long as it isn't British actresses putting on American accents I don't really mind.

Obviously you have to mention Angelina Jolie in the Tomb Raider films - absolutely faultless.

On the other end of the scale you have Mena Suvari in a low budget film called "Caffeine".

Easily one of the worst attempts at a british accent i've ever heard .. or so I thought until I watched Jennifer Love Hewitt murder our accent in "The Truth About Love".

oh yeah, I forgot about Gwyneth Paltrow ... she does a very convincing English accent ( not too 'posh' sounding ... which is the mistake most of them make )

Gwynnie in "Sliding Doors" was probably her best performance as a Brit

Never seen/heard them two. Were they "London" accents?

As per some posts above, I think Jolie in Tomb Raider and Paltrow in Sliding Doors are closest to perfect accents I've heard.

Did Julianne Moore put on an English accent in a war film?

She probably suits being a Brit. Pale and Ginger :D

Whilst she is working for HM goverment, it's never stated she is of English birth - good point.

I can't find anything except Ian Fleming based her character on a Polish born woman called Krystyna Skarbek.

I googled and found a link to her being French but i'm not sure if the website was confusing the character and the actress.

It's also the first time i've picked up on the Vesper Lynd / West Berlin pun.

I got the French thing too but then read more and it was talking about the actual actress.

Have to agree re. Angelina Jolie, I'd never heard of her before Tomb Raider so was very shocked when I discovered she isn't even English! Cate Blanchett vote for me too, and that reminds me also Liv Tyler in Lord Of The Rings along with Cate - they actually made efforts to give their accents their own 'voice' if you get me rather than just mimicking the 'English' accent.

Gillian Anderson on Graham Norton's show a wee while ago adopted a flawless English accent all the way through.

    Some trivia from IMDB
Lived in London, England, from age 2 to age 11, then moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she was teased for her English accent.

I think for at least the last five years she has been working and living in England which probably toned the accent.
