How do you solve a problem like Daybreak?

According to the ratings thread Daybreak yesterday had a very low 607k (14.7%) viewers.
It seems every Daybreak relaunch has lost viewers.
Adrian and Christine were averaging 700-900k.
Kate and Dan were averaging 700-800k
Aled and Lorraine averaging 600-700k
Am I right in thinking they can't just ditch the show and replace it with repeats or kids TV because they the licence means they have to broadcast news?
Surely the show can't carry on for much longer with viewing figures like that?

The only answer
Bring in Clare Balding !
Seconded. I usually turn over at 7.00. Unless Matt or Ranvir are filling in on the main show.
stop all the items about other ITV output - Dancing On Ice, X Factor, I'm A Celeb etc etc
It's a shame Helen Fospero doesn't have much of a role either. She just appears when Ranvir isn't in which isn't often.
The problem with Daybreak, like GMTV before it, is that its stuck in the past. The original Daybreak was a step forward and although viewers didn't initially take to it, that particular period of Daybreak remains the most watched. Once Adrian & Christine left, they started to take the show backwards and the latest relaunch complete with the GMTV logo, music, presenters and set just sums up their attitude towards breakfast TV.
Editorially the 6-7am slot was brilliant at the time of relaunch (although has yet again regressed to the previous format). If they continued that format until 8am, then from 8-9.30am had Lorraine doing all the fluffy stuff then ITV would eventually be on to a winner.
If they get rid of Aled I wonder what he'll do after giving up his Radio 2 show and Songs of praise for Daybreak?
she should present those ITV Casino/bingo types shows at 3am in the morning...
Bring back Dan and share presenting equally between Aled, Dan, Ranvir, Helen, Kate, Matt and a new female presenter. More news and less middle aged women ( i.e Lorraine) leering over boy bands and talking and acting like they are 16.
Apparently her contract with ITV is up in a few months and it's unlikely to be renewed. Makes you wonder why they threw millions at her in the first place as viewers clearly haven't taken to her.
I actually quite like Aled, he has settled in nicely enough and, yes, I still don't mind Kate! I would agree that Matt and Ranvir are very good, although I rarely see them as I usually only watch between maybe 7.45-8.30. Helen is also a great presenter and should be a main anchor, she is miles better than Lorraine. And on a personal level, Louisa James should be on all day long!
For me, the main issue is their over use of celebrities and boybands that no-one my age cares about. I don't want heavy news in the morning, so a mix of main stories and a bit of fluff is fine but I really do not want to see the likes of Rylan and Louis whats-his-face prancing around when I am waking up. Although strangely, Richard Arnold isn't too bad, I have no idea why.
The idea above about making the main news hour into a two hour slot, 6-8, would be great. I would then bring in a feature based section, keep the paper review but make it longer, tell us about what's on the telly [ but not just reality shows ], tell us about the sport. Keep laura Tobin, she's cute. Bring back the first Daybreak set as well, I liked to see out the window, it was much nicer, even if it is London!
Aleds constant jokes and looking away from the camera to the crew for approval is annoying. Like many have said, Matt and Ranvir would be more watchable for the main show.
personally, I think Aled is a likely contender for host of Strictly when Brucie decides to go (or cannot do it any more).
He is a "family" type of presenter, liked by old people, tolerated by younger.
He just lacked the necessary Live TV experience to be put into big, Live, entertainment shows.
He has now got this from doing Daybreak.
As a career move on his part (or his agent) it is a masterstroke, the big money from ITV compensates for losing his BBC gigs. However he should be able to breeze back into those sorts of jobs if and when he gets canned from Daybreak.
Plus his sacking will be seen as "unfair" so he will garner a lot of sympathy.
