Is soup off the menu?

I haven't drunk soup in ages, and neither is it something I ever think of giving the kids.

Come to think of it, I haven't seen any of my friends or other family members drinking soup for a very long time either.

Yet homemade soup (in particular) can be delicious.

Is it something you still eat, and do you make your own?

Or, as in my case, has it slipped off your culinary radar?

    I love soup.
All the old vegetables in our house go into a pot to make a nice veg soup. It can be a meal in itself. Obviously great on the cold days.

I suppose I could drink gallons of soup. :D

So, do you simply stick the veg in a pan of stock and simmer?

Yeah, that's about it. I sweat the veg off in a bit of butter until they soften slightly, add the stock (chicken is quite good. I know, odd for veg soup but anyway...) and simmer until the veg is completly soft. I usually put it through a strainer after that to make it really smooth. :)

I put in an onion and then any veg I have.. any combination is fine..chopped.. cover them with water, put in a stock cube (veggy one or chicken) and a bit of pepper. Boil (covered) for 20 mins + (depends how big your veg bits are) let it stand for a bit so you dont melt your hand blender:o:o:o, give it a whizz and bobs your uncle

My grandma used to make the best pea & ham soups and chicken broth. I need to get the recipes off her and have a go myself, they were so good.

I eat a lot of soup but I'm kinda lazy and just get the canned stuff.

Yeah........one of my favourites, dead cheap, easy and gets a bit of veg down.........

But I only ever have celery in 'celery' soup.........I never add it to other things...........

I'm a bit like that with most soup........I don't really like 'mixing' things, I have 'one thing soups'.........:D

Apart from the lentils.........which i think you have to add other things too if they're Puy or Green lentils..........red lentils are fine 'on their own'...........
