ooh, now, make sure the frosting is ONLY melted chocolate and double cream (like you're making truffles, but - you know - not!). And put a layer of it inside the cake aswell!!! Bloody lovely!!

(i'm not so hot on the old choc sponge part of it, sorry...)

Not made truffels for years! Is it just simply mixing the choc and cream? or do i have to do something complicated?!
And about what measures dya think I'd need?

I've tried this recipe and it's really good. You could swap the buttercrean for ganache as mentioned above.

    This recipe is amazing! http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/chocolatecolacake_7614

I have made it over and over again over the last few years.

But you must follow the recipe as it tells you otherwise it won't work - as my sister found out!:D

Sorry, I have re-read the posts three times and I can't see where ganache is mentioned above - where is it - as it is doing my head in :)

Ganache is essentially the combining of chocolate and cream.

Thank you cavalli! You've done my job for me! I suppose the layman's term for it would be truffle mix.:)

that choc cola cake sounds amazing. thats gonna be my next venture i think!
went with nigellas devil's food. waiting for frosting to thicken atm while the cake cools. looks amazing.
i didnt have small enough sandwich tins for gettin it to my boyfriends (he still hasnt given the box i used last time i made him cake) so did it in a square tin so i can cut it in half and get it in a lunch box!
will post a pic if people want!

I've made a chocolate coca cola cake a few times but its not James Martin's recipe - very similar to it though.
Cannot recommend it enough - the cola gives it a bit of a caramel taste and the frosting is yummy!

For future recipes I have a really yummy cheat fudge icing. All I do is melt over a bowl of simmering water, a good quality chocolate, (Lidls J.D.Gross brand is lovely as you can choose the mildest milk through to the darkest chocolate.) then I add nestles caramel in the ratio of 2 parts chocolate to 1 part caramel. Melt together let cool off a little then spread over cake yummy :D This also makes a lovely drizzle to decorate any dessert. My family also make me use this on my proffiterols.
