Not that Id see it banned or anything but the story of Punch and Judy is pretty fcked up though. I used to think it was horrible as a kid. Doesnt he beat the baby to death?
I'll be honest, I cant remember the whole plot. But I have known from an early age that Mr Punch wad a wrong 'un.
All fairytales are ****ed up, Brothers Grimm, Roald Dahl, traditional fairy tales are all a bit dark.
When I was a kid, I felt like a freak because Tom & Jerry, the brothers who slapped each other (the Stooges?), Punch & Judy and other slapstick comedies made all but me laugh.
I just couldn't see what was so funny about hitting someone. I even burst into tears when a character slapped Stan Laurel's face repeatedly. Apparently, I ran to the TV and shouted at the screen, trying to stop the character hurting "Mister Nice Laurel".
Was watching a Punch and Judy show outside the Eastgate Centre in Inverness many moons ago.Outside the shops, opposite the main entrance. The tourists were loving it.Punch,Judy and the Policeman arresting Punch for Domestic Abuse.:o
Next thing, a real PC and WPC walks up- to many boos, and stops the show. They looked so embarrassed.Seems the shops next to the stall had complained about losing business.
